Mr. Mott was a wonderful history teacher, I enjoyed history and I believe he was a big reason that I did. He was no non-sense guy and I appreciated his way of instruction.

I adored Mr. Mott. History was not my best subject but I still loved him and I enjoyed his class. I didn't pass the AP exam and I was disappointed...mostly because I had wanted to do well for HIM.
To this day, I quote him. "Silence is acquiescence." Then we'd know we could negotiate whatever crazy due date he'd just given for a paper or assignment. It's gotten funnier to me over the years when I think of it.
He was an incredibly special teacher and I liked and respected him very much. I will never forget him. I know I'm late to discovering his passing but I'm sending thoughts of healing and peace to his family and loved ones today.

I have been praying for Merritt and his family since I learned about his illness a couple weeks ago. My heartfelt
condolences go out to his
entire family. I am so sorry for
your loss. Today his energy and spirit will be with you until you meet again. We suffer a probable loss when we marry,
but not to choose love would
mean you would have been alone. To know love is to me
the only choice. He is no longer
in pain. He probably feels
liberated from his lllness and
would want you to know that
he is and will be as close to you
as your skin- and thoughts of
him. Your grief for him is " good grief", because you loved and shared so much.
My prayers are with you all.

Mr. Mott had an incredible attendance record. I remember one day that he was involved in a car accident on the way to school. He went ahead and came to class and taught History despite an open wound on his forehead. He taught more about diligence and perseverance than History that day.

Mr. Mott was my favorite teacher at NWC. I remember him telling his class that he was colorblind and his wife would pick out his clothes for him each day. So, he said he wasn't to blame if his clothes clashed. He was funny and smart and took an interest in each student. What a great teacher and person he was.

So sorry to read of Larry's death. Our Mott grandfathers were brothers, but the two branches of the family had lost touch until internet genealogy intervened. We enjoyed exchanging old family photos and stories. I am sorry we never got to meet in person.

Mr Mott greatly influenced me and inspired a love of History in me that eventually led to a BA in the subject. I'll always remember discussions of mutual respect that he used in lieu of belittling or threatening disruptive students. A great man, he will be missed but never forgotten.

I have so many good memories of Mr. Mott at NWC. I took every class I could from him and he helped me to love history. I remember the year we got our drivers license and his class was after lunch, we were often late getting back by a few minutes - he was stern at first and eventually just gave up. He was a great educator and caring person. He will be missed and he truly made a difference in so many lives.

Mr Mott was the best HS history teacher you could ever have! He made things interesting and fun! I have trouble remembering names and dates, but he was so patient and supportive that I ended up making good grades in his class. Look forward to taking your classes in heaven someday!

Mr. Mott was one of my absolute favorite teachers. I grew up with him. When I was telling a friend about how he kept surprising me every year because I would walk in on the first day of school he would be standing there in my classroom. It seemed like he was going to school with me. He was my 7th and 8th grade teacher, then when I went to highschool there he was! The only familiar face (teacher wise) I knew! I had him a few more years in high school. My friend said wow so he was like your Mr. Feeny, I hadn't thought of it but how perfect. Yes he was my Mr. Feeny, I went to him when I needed someone older to talk to, someone with wisdom. I went to him when I needed a laugh, he had some of the best old man jokes (my favorite), I thought his sailboat racing was interesting and he seemed so passionate about it. I remember the first time I saw him driving around outside of school in that little brown convertible, I thought surely that isn't old Mr. Mott, I asked him the very next day and yes it was!! I laughed at him a little bit for it. I have only positive things to say about Mr. Mott, he was one of the only teachers left that didn't just hand you a worksheet and say here finish this and turn it in. He actually taught us! He has been on my mind lately and maybe this is why. I am deeply saddened to hear about this loss. My thoughts and prayers are with the family!
