Matthew Burdick Obituary

After 21 years of lighting up our lives, Matthew David Burdick left us on July 31, 2009. Words cannot describe the truly unique and refreshing way he lived life. Life was a fun-filled daring game, and he was the master of humor and adventure. His ingenuity at creating fun and excitement was balanced with love, commitment and responsibility to his family, work and friends. He always offered a helping hand and plenty of laughter to all who knew him. Matt was born in Harrah, Oklahoma, and graduated from Harrah High School in 2006, where he was active in FFA, woodshop and welding. He pursued a career in welding and attended OSU Heavy Equipment Vehicle Institute. He loved to hunt and fish and all outdoor activities. Survivors of the immediate family include David Burdick, father; Sherry Haltman, mother; and Hank Burdick, brother. Matt leaves behind a very long list of friends who feel richer to have known him. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel in Oklahoma City, with Dale Horner officiating.

Dear Sherry, Hank, and David,
I'm so glad to have gotten to know your family. I met Hank during my student teaching year and was blessed to have taught Matt in third grade and in fifth grade. I'm sorry for our loss and that I missed seeing you at Matt's memorial on Wednesday. I just wanted you to know that he has a special place in my heart, too. Matt was kind-hearted and humorous and I was so glad to hear how others had known him in that way, too.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God embrace you with His love and hold you close.

Dear Sherry, Hank, & David -
The world is not quite such a fun, lively place now that Matt is not in it. I'll treasure forever the days Sherry and I spent just hanging out with all of our children either at her house or mine. Not to diminish anyone else's pain and feelings of loss....but Sherry, I just can't get you out of my mind. I pray that God will send you comfort and healing. I love you dearly.

Sherri and Hank you are in my prayers. Matt was one of the most unique people that I have ever met. He was funny, down to earth, never in a bad mood, and just an all around great guy. My favorite memory of his is when I was working 2 jobs and everybody decided to go somewhere after work and I didn't have any extra clothes to change into.....well Matt said hang on let me see what I got. He brought me a shirt that he had made that said Boobologist on it!!! Yep I wore it too and I will keep it forever and remember him everytime I see it. We all loved Matt and will miss him dearly

Son,
You are not only my best friend, you are the SPARK in my life. When you walked into the room, the rest of the world just disappeared. From day one you have lived life to the fullest, pushing limits and always living on the edge. When I would talk to you about making wise choices you would smile and tell me not to worry that life was a blast and there was no one that could look back and say they had had as much fun as you have had. You would tell me you have had one hell of a ride, why slow down now. I am so proud and of you and it gives me comfort to know you enjoyed life so much and I was able to be a part of the wild ride with you. The spark is gone and my world black. Hank and I are trying hard to draw from your strength and spirit. Hold our heads up high and walk tall and straight just like you son. I need you so much, but life doesn't always deal us a fair hand. The lights are out and the party's over.
Love you with all my heart and soul,
MOM

Dear Sherri and family,
Thanks for sharing Matt with us. He always had a smile and I always wondered what he was up to!!! Of course my favorite memories are from when you had him in soccer with Denison, and I couldn't figure out if he had something wrong with his legs because he always kept falling down. But that was just Matt he liked being on the ground! Our prayers are with you and your family during this difficulty time of loss and grief.

All of us suffer from the loss of Matt. I like to remember him as that cute little boy that loved to entertain us. He always had a big smile and was always happy. We are going to have a void that can never be filled but we were so fortunate to have him with us even if for such a short while. Kent & Debra Adam (Owasso, OK)
