Scott Taylor Obituary

Scott Thomas, 68 of OKC, went to be with his Lord on January 23, 2004. Born September 3, 1935, in Wetumka, OK, he graduated from Classen High School in 1953, He worked in the printing, publishing and video production industries for over 40 years with Times Journal Publishing, Western Catalog Systems and Summit Video Productions. His voice was known to many through his production of television commercials, and he will always be remembered for those 'silly' Del Rancho commercials. His passion was always gospel music. As a part of the Sentries Quartet, he ministered to thousands of people before focusing his talents on leading congregational singing for Faith Tabernacle, Lakeside Assembly, and Lansbrook Church. His songs helped hundreds of couples celebrate their marriage, and his voice has comforted many more at the funerals of their loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann (Willingham) Taylor, to whom he was married on June 20, 2002. Her love and care sustained him during his year-long battle with cancer. He is also survived by his father, Walter 'Buck' Taylor; his children, Scott Thomas Taylor II, Mark Lee Taylor, and Shari Lynn Garland; his grandchildren, Scotty Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Taylor Beadle, Zachary Taylor, Tres Grulkey, Savanna Taylor, Montana Grulkey, and Jake Taylor; his brothers and sisters, Pat Lamb and Darla Brown of Farmington, NM, Cynthia Davidson and Deborah Currier of Kirtland, NM, and Roger Taylor of St. George, Utah; his adopted son, Jimmy Turner, and by the fellowship of Lansbrook Church, and by many other friends and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ova Taylor, his aunt Zula Ford, and by his wife of 42 years, Ina Rae Taylor. Scott was a generous, loving and good-spirited man whose legacy remains in the many lives that he touched. We miss him now, but we know that we will see him again in heaven. Memorial contributions may be made to Lansbrook Church or to the American Cancer Society. Services will be Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeside Assembly, 6810 NW 122nd, Oklahoma City. The family will gather at the mortuary on Monday, January 26, 2004, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. You are welcome to stop by and visit.

What a glorious celebration of life was presented at Scott's "going-home service." I'm thankful I got to be there and to hear Scott sing at his own funeral, which I understood he said he wanted to do (on videotape of course but also in spirit). Scott hired me to work at Times-Journal many years ago... He was a fun boss and was also outspoken about his faith in God. In recent years, someone introduced him to my daughter Hannah, who had dreams of becoming a professional actress and dancer.... This past summer, at almost 17 years of age, Hannah went to be with the Lord. I know she and Scott have been reunited and while he is leading singing she is leading dancers around the throne of God, in a wondrous eternal celebration of life, because of their faith in Jesus Christ, who loves us forever.

My condolences to Scott's family....

Heaven is getting sweeter all the time....

Dear Scott, Mark and Shari:

I was so saddened to hear of Scott's death. I will never forget all the wonderful memories of Scott leading, Bill playing piano and me playing organ week after week at Faith Tabernacle. Even after I moved to Texas, Bill would always call and ask if I could play for him and Scott at the Oklahoma Campmeeting each year. Then our family was so blessed to have Scott, Bill and Billy provide the music for my dad's funeral in 1996. And then all the Fine Arts competitions! We have had so many wonderful musical memories. I will greatly miss Scott, but look forward to being reunited in Heaven some day soon.

Mark, Scott and Shari - My sincere sympathies. your father touched my life in more ways that I can express. From playing baseball with him as kids in your back yard to his singing at my wedding. My eyes fill with tears as I type this note. I will remember him always.

Dear Marty, Scott, Mark and Shari~

Melvin and I are so very very sad and share in your sorrow. Melvin & Scott became friends playing on opposing softball teams for their respective churches years ago and they remained close for over 50 years. We regret that we will not be able to be at Scott's Homegoing . . . .we know it will be an amazing celebration and if we were closer, we would certainly be there! We all know he is better now but as you know, it still is so hard to say goodbye. Our love, Judy & Melvin Hatley

I was truly blessed with Scott's music when he sang at Lakeside. My favorite gospel CD is Scott singing with the trio. My family was heart broken to hear he had passed away. He will truly be missed.
