Buddy Coffman Obituary

Buddy Coffman, 71
Oldham County
Buddy Coffman died peacefully at Baptist East Hospital on Sept. 24, 2021 from complications after a heart attack.
A lifelong resident of Oldham County, Buddy attended Liberty Elementary and Oldham County High School (class of '68). Buddy married the love of his life, Patricia Gail Daniels, on July 29, 1967 in Celina, Tenn. Pat and Buddy had two children, Travis (1969) and April (1980).
Buddy hauled water and cattle with his father, Fred, worked at several local farms during his life, was an employee of Kentucky Artificial Breeding Association and Coffman Upholstery, a business started by Pat. Buddy loved to be on the road and drove for Smith's Transfer, as well as several different trucking companies before starting his own.
Buddy was a friend to all, never hesitating to help someone in need. He loved working with his hands and could fix almost anything, build some pretty cool stuff and loved cooking meals for friends in his smoker. You could pick him out of a crowd by his trademark Western shirts and Stetson hat. Buddy enjoyed spending time with his family and being the best "Pa" to his three grandchildren, Nic, Harrison and Garrett.
After a well-earned retirement, Buddy and Pat purchased a travel trailer, setting off to see the country. From Florida to Maine, Virginia to Oregon, they visited almost all of the 50 states. One of their favorite places to land was Milton-Freewater, Ore. where they traveled to visit dear friends Wanda and Phil Newton and their daughter, Lisa Rodighiero. But the place Buddy loved more than anywhere else in the world was anywhere with Pat by his side. They made many new friends wherever they went and always treated everyone like family, no matter who they were or where they came from. Buddy's greatest gift to the world was making everyone feel welcome in his company.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Gerry (Judd); sisters Cheri Kilby and Kathie Kelly; his cousin, Phil Coffman; and his sidekick Cajun the dog. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Pat; his son Travis and wife Diane (Schweitzer) Coffman; his daughter April Coffman and wife Jessica Carner; his grandsons, several great-grandchildren and many other loving friends and family members.
Buddy was known for doing things his own way on his own terms, all the way up to his final breath. He insisted that no one be sad and no somber service be held in his name. Instead, friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at a joyful gathering on Saturday Oct. 16, 2021 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Brownsboro Community Center in Crestwood. In lieu of flowers, do a good deed for someone in Buddy's memory. Donations can also be made to the Humane Society of Oldham County or the Brownsboro Community Center.
