Scott Waters Obituary

Scott Edmond Waters, 77
KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE

Scott Edmond Waters was born Feb. 17, 1948, in Franklin, Ky., to Edmond and Rachel Townes Waters. To be closer to extended family, the young family moved to Oldham County in 1949. Scott attended La Grange Elementary School and Oldham County High School graduating in 1966. He went to Georgia Southern College and graduated in 1970. He then returned to Oldham County where he lived and worked until he and his wife moved to Seymour, Tenn., in 2020. He passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, in Knoxville, Tenn.
Scott loved family, friends, food, sports, reading, bourbon, coffee, music, birds and trees. He disliked algebra, traffic, patio dining, stewed tomatoes and oatmeal.
He is survived by his wife, Darline Gramig; his children, Mary Claibourne Waters and Matthew Waters; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Payne; his sister, Lucy Clausen; his grandchildren, Brighton Waters and Evan, Jack and Mary Kate Payne; he is also mourned by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
No funeral will take place. A memorial gathering for family is planned for the summer.

I remember an unforgettable collision on the football field. I was three years younger than Scott. I have never forgotten about that.
