Irene M. Farwell

HINSDALE - Irene M. Farwell, of 1012 Route 446, passed away Saturday (May 12, 2018) at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born March 7, 1945, in Hinsdale, she was a daughter of Freemont "Pete" and Violet Dutton Hamilton. On May 9, 1964, in Hinsdale, she married George M. Farwell Jr., who survives. They celebrated their 50th in May of 2014.

Irene was a graduate of Hinsdale Central School in 1963, and was a graduate of the Bradford Area Schools LPN program in 1964.

She was employed as an LPN at the Valley View Nursing Home in Olean; the Allegany Nursing Home; and lastly, as an LPN at the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, retiring in 2004 after about 40 years due to illness.

Irene was a member of the Hinsdale United Methodist Church, the Fay Hollow Sunshine Club in Hinsdale and the Guys and Gals of Hinsdale.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and also loved to bake, do crafts, sewing and making quilts.

Along with her loving husband, Irene is survived by two sons, Richard (Christie) Farwell of Cuba and Timothy (Karie) Farwell of Olean; a daughter, Lori Farwell of Hinsdale; six grandchildren, Jason Crawford of North Carolina, Sara and Cody Goldsmith, Terrance Farwell and Corie Farwell, all of Olean, and Alexa Farwell of Cuba; four great-grandsons, Liam Kemp, Jayson Crawford, and Ryan and Connor Farwell; one great-granddaughter, Serenity Crawford; two brothers, Roy (Donna) Hamilton of Hinsdale and Dick (Linda) Hamilton of Oklahoma; three sisters, Arlene Kent and Mary (John) Tetlak, both of Hinsdale, and Esther (Herbert) Simmons of Gowanda; several nieces and nephews; and a life-long friend and caretaker, Ramona Witzigman.

Irene was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Willard "Bill" Hamilton.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (May 18, 2018) at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday (May 19, 2018) at the Hinsdale Methodist Church. Mr. Monroe B. Bishop will officiate. Burial will be in the Hinsdale Cemetery, Maplehurst.
