Neil Rees Obituary
OLEAN - Neil T. Rees, of Olean, passed away Thursday (Jan. 5, 2023) from heart complications, at the age of 75.
He was born in 1947 at the Olean General Hospital and graduated from Hinsdale High School.
After High School, Neil was drafted into the U.S. Army and fought in the conflict in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division from 1967-1968, receiving several medals for honorable service.
After the army, Neil met the love of his life, Eleanore Hall, and married her Oct. 3, 1970. Together they shared 52 years of marriage, before her passing in 2002.
They started their family in the Olean area, before hiring out with the railroad in 1976. Neil worked for the railroad for 38 years as a machine operator until finally retiring in 2014.
He was a devoted family man and is survived by three sons and many grandchildren. He was loved by everyone that knew him, and he always had a good word to say or a helping hand to offer. Family and friends will deeply miss this wonderful man.
Services will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday (Jan. 14, 2023) at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., at which time funeral services will begin and will honor both Neil and his beloved wife Eleanore, who passed only 11 months apart and will now be together in peace. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery and at the convenience of the family.
