My condolences to all of Tony´s family and friends at this time. I worked for Tony at The French Cafe for 4 years in the early 80´s. He was always gregarious, kind and funny - one of the best bosses I ever had! He will be missed.

There was always something extremely special about dining at the French Cafe, especially when Tony was there. He had a very unique way of making everyone feel special, and very welcome. My condolence's to the Abbott family. Rest in peace Tony...

Wonderful memories and spending a lot of money having a lot of drinks. Tony would always greet you with a smile and a hug. No matter how late it was even after hours he would accommodate us. Sometimes we would close the bar and drink and share company with our friends till 4-5 o´clock in the morning . Nothing can compare to the French café experience, and I have traveled the world and no restaurant or owner hold a candle to Tony and the French café.

Mr. Abbott, Tony, friend. I lived in the Old Market for many years. Only a few places would I never skip on an evening out. But of them all, only Tony's French Cafe ever held some magic. My favorite day of the year was the day when a major blizzard fell. The Old Market would empty. But the French Cafe would stay open! They had a CD player. That winter evening as a thick but soft and slow snow fell, Tony let me play over and over from The Nutcracker the song A Pas De Deux. The bartenderess Julia was a former ballerina so she too enjoyed the music. On the north portion of the wonderful wooden bar it was only the three of us in a world of pure silence, white snow, peaceful evening, and Tchaikovsky; pure magic. One of the most wonderful moments of my life. I can still see the snow falling on Howard Street through the glass windows. Tony was a spirit. Always kind, always professional, always generous, always wanting a kiss, always fun, well... except on Bastille Day when he drove everyone nuts with his "way too loud" mini Napoleonic cannon. He built a restaurant and bar that became a community. So many laughs, late nights, New Years Eves - and Mariachi bands, wonderful food, birthday parties, summer nights on the patio, and champagne hangovers, etc. all at Tony's French Cafe. We will miss you Tony. You touched many lives and built a place of friendship and magic and for that your legacy will always remain. Rest in peace my friend. TK

Thank you, Mr. A, for laughs and friendship we shared both while I worked for you and beyond that. I will always value and remember the things I learned from you and my time at The Cafe. Until we meet again, my friend.

Thank you for your beautiful restaurant and a lifetime of joyful memories there. A painting from The French Cafe now graces my home.
