Bruce Simon Obituary

Simon, Bruce A.

March 23, 1957 - February 17, 2021

Bruce A. Simon passed away on February 17, 2021, of natural causes at age 63. He will be forever missed by his loving wife Stacy and daughers Talia and Ellie. Bruce is also survived by his mother Anne Simon, sister Janice Tecimer (Timur), cousins Todd Simon (Betiana), Leslie Myers (Curt), Venus French, Jim Simon (Kim), Dan Simon (Katherine), numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends and colleagues.

Born on March 23, 1957, he attended Westside High School in Omaha, Neb., and graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania before joining the family business, Omaha Steaks. He and his wife Stacy were married for 29 years, living full and active lives in Omaha and Sedona, Ariz.

Bruce enjoyed traveling and appreciated art, good food, star gazing, Italian wine and spending time with his family and many friends. He loved good jokes, giving advice and opinions - whether asked for or not – and filling the room with his booming presence. Information technology was an area of particular interest and one of his first roles at Omaha Steaks was to bring the business into the computer age. Bruce loved his Tesla, the newest electronic gadgets and technologies, and investing in the stock market.

He became President of Omaha Steaks in 1994 and subsequently assumed the roles of CEO and Chairman. The company was founded by his great-great grandfather in 1917 and was part of Bruce's life since his childhood days where he'd regularly accompany his father Alan to the plant and help assemble boxes to earn extra spending money.

In addition to playing a pivotal role in the growth of Omaha Steaks, he and Stacy led by example through community service and philanthropic support. He was recognized as a strong leader in supporting the cultural arts, education, civic and military organizations both locally and nationally. Bruce was especially proud of the leadership roles he played with Friends of Florence and Joslyn Art Museum and was an active supporter of the SEAL Family Foundation, Lauritzen Gardens and The Nature Conservancy, in addition to many others too numerous to name. Bruce was a past member and Chairman of the Executive Board of the Nebraska Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization. He also served on the board of the CEO Organization and was a long-time member of the American Meat Institute and the North American Meat Association.

Bruce is preceded in death by his father Alan Simon, uncles Frederick Simon and Stephen Simon, and father-in-law Gene Smallwood.

I would like to pass on my sincere condolences to Bruce's wife, kids and family. I was a good friend of Bruce's when we were at Syracuse U. I stayed in touch with Bruce everytime I would purchase Omaha Steak items for my daughter. I just spoke with Bruce in December and he sounded fine. When I went to order more items today in Mt.Laurel NJ. they told me the news. I was heart broken. He was a great guy and he'll be missed.

Stacy, Talia and Ellie

I worked for and with Bruce for many years at Omaha Steaks. We had our ups and downs, but the time I remember the most was when he said he wanted to be remembered as a good man. HE WAS A GOOD MAN.

I will miss him!
