Charlene Fletcher Obituary

Charlene Fraley Fletcher

October 19, 1937 - September 7, 2025

Charlene Fraley Fletcher was born in Des Moines, IA, to Charles and Beulah Fraley. She had one brother, John "Jack". The Fraleys moved to Omaha in 1945, where she has lived since. Charlene graduated from Doane College in 1958. She married John Fletcher that same year; they had two sons, Douglas and David.

Charlene was a stay-at-home mom until 1977, when she began working in the Freshman English program at UNO. She completed her M.A. in 1981 and continued to teach there until 1990, when she resigned and relocated to First Data Resources. While at FDR, she began her training as a mediator, a skill that became a lifelong passion. She assisted the start-up of the Concord Mediation Center and served on the Board of Directors for six years.

Her hobbies included golfing, reading, and singing. She sang in church choirs and joined Acapella Omaha in 2005. She served on that Board of Directors for six years, also.

Her greatest joy came from her family. Her two sons, Doug and Dave; two daughters-in-law, Tanya and Kelly; four grandsons, Derek, Grant, Kent, and Nicholas; granddaughter-in-law, Hannah; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Penny, were the lights of her life. She also had four nieces (Chris, Joan, Sue, and Janet). She was fortunate to have many wonderful friends to travel the journey with. She considered herself to be truly blessed in all ways.

Charlene is preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, and husband, John.

Char was a dear friend and full of life and laughter. We shared many adventures while she worked at OPS and beyond. Golf trips included some great stories and one unsolved mystery. My deepest sympathies to her family.
