Harper, Charles Lynn

April 26, 1940 - January 15, 2023

Retired Professor Emeritus of Sociology, Dr. Charles L. "Charlie" Harper passed away on January 15, 2023. He was 82.

Born in Cape Girardeau, MO in 1940. After graduating with his Bachelor's Degree in Biology, he taught at Raytown, MO Junior High, where his mother also taught as an English teacher.

After completing his Master's Degree in Sociology, he joined the faculty of Creighton University. He later received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Harper was a member of the Creighton University Sociology faculty for 44 years, from 1968 to 2012. The focus of his work was the environment and social change. He was the author of several textbooks still in use today. While at Creighton he held the department chairperson position several times and was a featured lecturer at many conferences and symposiums throughout the world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alma (Hagy) Harper; and brother Bob Harper.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Keffer; children: Sonia Keffer, Russell Harper, Andrew Keffer, Stan (Rene') Harper, and Caroline Keffer (Lewis Windham); and many beloved grandchildren.

Private Services were held for family at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

Deepest Sympathy to Charlie's family. My friend, Tomoko, and I were Sociology students who babysat for Russel when he was little. Tomoko gave him a Japanese rattle that was hers, when she was little.
