Charles Reed Obituary

Reed, Charles Q. "Chuck"

March 16, 1960 - August 22, 2022

Chuck Reed was an incredibly dedicated family man who also brightened the days of countless friends and co-workers with his outgoing, fun-loving way. Chuck was born March 16, 1960 in Omaha. In 1989, the Central High and Kearney State College graduate took a job as a writer for Stamats, a Cedar Rapids-based firm that produces recruiting materials and strategic planning for colleges and universities nationwide. Chuck would spend over 30 years with Stamats, becoming a senior account executive and higher education consultant. Through his sage advice on branding, image, recruitment and academic programming, he contributed to the success of hundreds of schools across the country.

The same year he started at Stamats, Chuck married the love of his life, Omaha native Anne McCormick. He was a devoted father to their three children. Chuck throughout life was an avid cyclist and swimmer, well-known in Omaha's master's swimming community. Chuck and Anne recently relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota to be closer to their first grandchild. That's where Chuck last week died suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart-related ailment at age 62.

Chuck is survived by Anne; sons, Christopher and Duncan; daughter, Olivia; daughter-in-law, Anna; granddaughter, Brynnley; mother, Shirley Ebert (Bob); brother, Bob (Leslie and Jessie); many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and loyal dog, Ruby.

CELEBRATION OF CHUCK'S LIFE: Friday, September 2, from 5-8pm, at Elmwood Park Pavilion in Omaha. Chuck's Facebook page will include information on live streaming.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Nebraska Humane Society at tinyurl.com/chuck-reed-nhs; or the Omaha Central High School Foundation, 1111 N. 13th St., Suite 318, Omaha, NE, 68102, or online at chsfomaha.org/support/memorial-giving/

Anne and family,
I wanted to send a note in the mail but I see that you have moved from Omaha and I don´t have that address. Jeff and I send our deepest condolences to you for the loss of such a wonderfully talented and witty man we called colleague. His comments about his family made it obvious where his heart lay, but his talent in writing and marketing was legend among those who had the pleasure and honor of working with him. I had hoped our paths would cross again; knowing that won´t happen makes me profoundly sad, which makes me appreciate the deep loss you-his family-must be experiencing. Our hearts go out to you.

Ann, I am so incredibly sorry to hear the news about Chuck. We had so many good times together as race directors, dragon boaters, triathletes, etc. I always enjoyed Chuck´s sense of humor and admired his energy, creativity and organizational skills. He will be missed but will always be remembered fondly.

I'm so sorry to hear of Chuck's sudden passing. I have such fond memories of him at conferences across the states. One of my favorites was a trip to DC. He was so excited to take me to an Ethiopian restaurant in Georgetown. There was no silverware. We ate from a tray by scooping up the food in our hands. He was a great adventurer! His smile, laughter, and quick wit will be missed by many. Sending prayers to your family.

I´m so sad for his family and his many friends, at the sudden passing of Chuck! He was in Centrals production of SOUTH PACIFIC in 1977! I had all the guys cut their long hair short to be more authentic. Chuck´s was really long, covering his face! He came to rehearsal after he had hair cut, and we all swooned - he was so handsome! I don´t think he ever wore it long again!
Chuck was such a wonderful, delightful, loving presence as a husband, father and friend! I will be out of town Saturday, but will be there in spirit celebrating his too short life! May Light Perpetual Shine Upon Him!

My deepest sympathy for the loss of a cherished family member, Charles. It has been so obvious to me as I have known Anne, that theirs was a close knit, loving and FUN family. My heart hurts for your loss and words do not seem to come. You are loved!

What a beautiful memorial message. The words are so well chosen to share the deep love and devotion the family had for each other. I have worked with Anne for just over a year and have seen how precious family is to Anne and Charles. Words don't express my sorrow and how much my heart hurts for the family. Charles was an amazing husband and friend to so many and he will be sorely missed.

I will never forget Kayaking along side Chuck as he swam the Point to Point swims on OKoboji! I had to paddle hard to keep with him! So much fun. That guy could swim! Chuck thought me how to do flip turns when I was pregnant for my youngest! She turned out to be an amazing swimmer! Love you Chuck! Love to Anne and kids. Forever in my Heart!
