Cheryl Rhoades Obituary

Cheryl Rhoades, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. Born in 1955, Cheryl lived a life full of love and resilience, leaving us richer for having known her. After gracing us with her presence for 70 years, Cheryl passed away on January 17, 2026.

Cheryl is survived by her two siblings, her sister Connie Platzer and brother Jim O'Brien, daughters, Terri Giacalone and Kristine Gatlin, and by her son, Justin Rhoades. She was also a cherished grandmother to Carlea Montgomery, Peyton Dilly, Tyson Rhoades, Mia Rhoades, and Jordan Giacalone. She was also predeceased by her parents, Carleta and James O'Brien. Cheryl's family was the centerpiece of her life.

Known for always having a smile on her face, Cheryl was deeply caring and loving. She exemplified strength and courage with her unwavering spirit in the face of adversity, imparting some of her greatest life lessons: to love each day as it comes, survival in the face of adversity, and to never give up. Her resilience was an inspiration to all who crossed her path.

Among Cheryl's proudest accomplishments were her three children, whose lives bear testament to her nurturing guidance, love, and unwavering support. She taught them to navigate life with courage, love, and a heart that always sought to understand, making her legacy live on through them.

We will be having a visitation and memorial service on February 7th, 2026, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, located at 15002 Blondo St, Omaha, NE 68116. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. and the memorial service will start at 4 p.m. There will be a small reception downstairs with food and drink provided immediately after.
