Born July 11, 1927, and she passed away September 19, 2023 at Sierra Winds in Peoria, AZ. Preceded in death by her husband Gordon "Gordy" Schempp, son Alan Schempp, daughter-in-law's Rona Schempp, Sheila Schempp, survived by son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Connie Schempp, Pleasanton, CA, Ron Schempp and Amy Lavelle, Apple Valley, MN, Eric Schempp, Peoria, AZ. Grandchildren; Jamie, Ashley, Kyle, Cole, Christian Schempp, and great-granddaughter Lucy Schempp. Beth Ann Swedberg was an in-home birth. Born on July 11, 1927, in Bessemer, MI. She was delivered by her uncle Dr. W.E. Tew. She and her family moved to her grandparent's home in Hurley, WI. The second floor of the Hurley Fire Hall where her grandfather was the Chief. They moved across the street to the home Beth Ann grew up in. Beth Ann attended Grade School, Junior High School and graduated from Hurley High School -1945. She was an active participant in many of the school clubs and as Cheerleader. She was an active member in Luther League, Salem Lutheran Church. As a youth she enjoyed school games, jump rope, ice skating, tobogganing and building snowmen. Her summers were spent at Lake Gogebic, MI. Where they swam, fished, boating, played cards, chinese checkers and enjoyed the natural surroundings. She and Gordy would share the same experience at the lake with their sons. Beth Ann was accepted to a nursing program at St. Luke's School of Nursing, Duluth, MN. There she developed lifelong friends attending nursing school. Freshman year of nursing school Beth Ann met Gordy while attending Duluth Teacher's College. He showed up to take out another classmate and was introduced to Beth Ann. He came back a few days later for one of several visits. Their first date was on Valentine's Day. They dated three years and were engaged and married on June 12, 1950 at Salem Lutheran Church. Her brother Carl Swedberg gave her away. Gordy joined the Navy out of High School, was honorably discharged and stayed in the Reserves. With a Top Secret Clearance, he was called back to service in Korea. Stationed out of Coronado Island, CA. Beth Ann then moved to Coronado, CA and worked at the hospital. Gordy returned to work on the Coronado Naval Staff. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and moved back to Duluth, MN. Gordy joined Northwestern Bell in 1953 and moved to Minneapolis. The first of many corporate moves - Brainerd, MN, Richfield, MN, St. Cloud, MN, Omaha, NE, New Jersey (Manhattan) Omaha, NE (Gordy in Denver, CO). Final destination - Peoria, AZ. Beth Ann "Mover in Chief" made each move "home" for their family. With sons in school full time Beth Ann returned to work as an R.N. at Nebraska Methodist Hospital Omaha, NE. She worked for over 20 years before retiring. At her retirement ceremony it was attended by the Chief Administrator Officer to acknowledge the sheer number of letters of gratitude for her care and compassion of her patients! The most that he had ever seen for one individual R.N.! Always a woman of faith Beth Ann was also active in (nine) Lutheran churches in her lifetime. She and Gordy enjoyed their membership at Morning Star Lutheran Church, Omaha, NE and American Lutheran Church, Sun City, AZ. Active in variety of roles. Beth Ann - Bible study, Quilting for Charitable organizations, Ushering, Blood pressure, Wednesday Night Alive. Gordy, on the ALC Board of Directors and Church Personnel Committee. Beth Ann was actively involved with four sons in Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts, School, sports - swimming, hockey, baseball, skiing and soccer. They enjoyed traveling to visit their sons and families, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Beth Ann and Gordy were extremely grateful for the friendships and great times that they enjoyed with all of their neighbors in their final destination - Westbrook Village, Peoria, AZ. The Schempp family would like to thank everyone for their calls to offer help, support and sharing the many fond memories of Beth Ann and her extraordinary life!
Memorial services will be Saturday, November 18, 2023, 11 a.m. (Phoenix, AZ - Time Zone) at American Lutheran Church, 17200 N Del Webb Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85373. Memorial Service will be streamed at:
