George Moore Obituary

Moore, George
Nov 16, 1949 - Nov 24, 2012

Pastor George Moore lived his life "on a journey with the living Christ"- and he continues on this journey in eternity. He was a tender and loving husband, father, friend and shepherd. He served faithfully on Young Life Staff in Indianapolis for 15 years, as an associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs for 6 years and as the senior pastor of West Hills Church in Omaha for the past 18 years. His passion was to know Jesus and make Him known throughout the world, and he worked faithfully with pastors throughout the city to bring God's Kingdom to Omaha. He was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Caroline and is survived by wife, Pam; children: Joshua (Cookie), Zachary and Emily; grandchildren, Ayahna and Christian; brothers, Robert "Bobby" (Lynn) and Thomas "Chip" (Sally).

I'm so sorry for your loss. George married my husband and I 12 years ago on December 9th, 2000. He brough such meaning and understanding in his sermons. We will always remember him so fondly. All the best to you, Lesley (Biggs) and Jack McGrath - Overland Park, KS.

Pam & Moore Family,

We join with so many people who credit George for making a difference in our lives. George has shepherded us through so many different seasons of our lives. He has preached the Word in season and out of season. He has "comforted the afflicted and afflicted the comfortable" as they say. He has shared his journey of cancer with all of us, giving us insight into the challenges of treatment, recovery, and facing death. In everything, he has given witness to Jesus, his Savior and friend. We miss him and his presence at West Hills and in our lives, but his legacy will live on in our hearts and lives. We pray for you as you grieve and adjust to a different life. May God's grace support and strengthen you in your journey. We love you and pray for you.

Pam, Josh, Zach & Emily & West Hills Family

The memorial service was so beautiful, George planning the service made it that even more beautiful. His focus taken off himself and onto God is exactly like George, unselfish and giving and not about him but giving the glory to God. We know where George is and we know that he is dancing with Jesus. The hard part is learning to live without him and moving on and trying to fill the void his leaving has left behind. We can only trust that God will take each through this and honor the memory of George along the way. Pam, Josh, Zach and Emily we are hugging you each in our hearts and have asked God to hold you close to Him as you learn to live without George in your lives. May you find peace in all that God sends your way to help you get through your loss.

Love & Hugs,

Esther Miller

Pam & children: Our sympathy to you as you mourn the end of George's journey on earth. We pray that you will sense the Comforter as you travel the rest of your journey. George challenged us with his sermons and life style. He ran the race and he is rejoicing in the winners circle.

I am another of those "breakfast club" kids from Lawrence Central High School. I remember meeting George by the pool at the school where I realized I only had to ask Jesus once to come into my life. I babysat Josh and Zach when they were really little, and pet sat his dog "Ghandi Moore the Labrador." Later I worked as a volunteer leader. I see a couple names here I know. (I have a picture of you, Jim Solenberg) My heart is so sad but rejoicing at the thought of George and Jesus sitting together. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the church. Pam, thank you for coming into his life.

Very sad to hear of George's passing. Before moving to Kansas City a number of years ago, my family was so much better for having participated in activities at West Hills. George had a tremendous impact on me personally and I will always be thankful for having known him. Prayers for Pam and the family and for all of the West Hills family. Tom and Sue Moore

TRIBUTE TO REVEREND GEORGE MOORE
PASTOR OF WEST HILL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OMAHA –NEBRASKA FOR 19 YEARS
I knew Reverend George Moore about 10 years ago when we first met in Germany, Cameroon and again in Omaha in September 2012 when Rev Julius ( National Sunday School Officer for the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon) and I visited his Church during an exchange visit program. I also met his wife Pam a wonderful resource person.
When I received the news from Priscilla, Caitlin, Peg and Karen etc I did not need any other confirmation. Reverend George whom I fondly called Pastor George is no longer on this earth but had gone to heaven.
You were a true pastor who shepherd not only members who came to your Church but you touched the lives of many through your sermons. You worked relentlessly even when you were ill you encouraged others and had a burden to pray for others
I can still remember the staff meeting you held on September 16 2012 where you reiterated everyone to work hard. You also emphasized the need to work without supervision. This was a message from a true father who was travelling to a far off land to his children. You drew inspiration from John 6: 60-71. Since then I had deep respect and love for your pastoral work. On Sunday September 16, 2012.Your sermon was focus on the need to unite as Gods children, the challenge to walk with God; and the right thing to do is to confess our sins; live in the light and love my neighbor as myself. 1 John 2:28 +3:1.
Pastor George will be remembered not only as a teacher of spiritual formation but as a mentor with his unrelenting spirit to bring everyone to Christ. You had planted the seeds and your foot prints are uncountable in your pastoral work for 19 years in West Hills. You are a pillar that will always be remembered
You were a pastor and a father to your family. Oh Pam my heart weeps for you and Emily. Do not be worried and upset (John 14:1)
Your husband has fought a good fight. I know he is resting in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ. God had design it and we can't fight God. I will miss you but your legacy remains
My heartfelt prayers and condolence to Pam, the children and the entire Church

Pam: I have just learned of George's death that has recently happened. My heart hurts for you. What a wonderful man he was and always will be! I remember when I was fortunate enough to get to know him better when he was at First Pres in Colorado Springs and he wanted me to work with him in organizing the Co-Dependency workshop that the Church held. I got to know George, you and even recall when Emily was born! I was so sad when you guys left. The love you two had for one another was astounding! Please remember that love will never die, the memories will still be there and should be treasured forever. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

George demonstrated how to truly be "on a journey with the living Christ." He will be so dearly missed here on earth, but I know I will see him again and praise along side him as we spend eternity in God's glorious kingdom! He and his family touched countless lives and he will always be in our hearts. I know he was smiling when he heard our Heavenly Father say, "Well done my good and faithful servant."

George was the mentor who could challenge us while giving us the confidence that Jesus would equip us to do His will. He was always selfless and giving, wanting only to lead as many as he could to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Pam, you and your family will never know how many lives both you and he have touched in such incredible ways. I thank God for bringing George and you into my life to shepherd me over the past 18 years, to marry both my children, and to be our loving friends. We'll all miss him, but his incredible legacy will live on at West Hills and all over the world. Ministry and living the Christian model in every circumstance were truly his gifts to us all. He will always hold a very special place in my heart.

George was the first person who told me about a relationship with Jesus. George made it real and I would never be the same. He was my leader, discipler, mentor, boss, friend, ministry partner, and brother. What an impact he had in Indianapolis, Omaha, and all over the world. Praise God for his rich life! I am sure Jesus is saying "well done my good and faithful servant." It was our privilege to walk with George for many years in ministry. Our prayers go out to Pam, Emily, Josh, and Zach and the family.

George married my husband and I seventeen years ago. I remember him clearly telling us to find some time to sit alone during the crazy final days before the wedding, reflecting on celebrating each other and making sure to make space for God in our marriage. He explained that after all the excitement of the wedding, God would be our best friend in the marriage. He was right, and now when my husband and I mentor engaged couples, I pass along that same wisdom.
I know I will miss his weekly pod casts that I turned to often when I was in need of spiritual guidance 900 miles away.
Blessings and prayers to his family and friends, as well as all members of West Hills.

My heart goes out to Pam and Emily at this difficult time. While we all know George is now at peace, it is always hard to lose a loved one. My prayer is you find comfort in your many wonderful memories and knowing he is with Jesus and one day meet again. For now our West Hills family will do our best to give you the comfort and prayers you need. We love you!

I had the great fortune to be a club kid in George's very first Young Life club at Lawrence and had the pleasure to work with George for many years at the Lawrence, Carmel, and North Central clubs. George was the "real deal." I can't begin to list all the things I learned from him through the years. I can only say I am a better person because I had the honor to work with and learn from him.

Well done good and faithful servant. Enter into the rest of our Lord and Savior.

See you on the other side of the Jordan.

Dear Moore Family,

George Moore shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with me (and many of my friends) during his 1st two years on YL staff in Indianapolis, 1971-73. This has made all the difference in my life. While I had not spoken with George for over 20 years, he was, nonetheless, the key servant of the Lord who God used to establish the trajectory of my life (11 years on YL staff, 21 years as asst pastor).

I pray for you his family that you take comfort in many warm memories of him (I certainly have many!). I look forward to the day when I can see our Lord face to face, together with George in the throng.

Warmly in Christ, Rick Barr

As a teenager in Indianapolis I happily rose at 4 in the morning to attend Young Life meetings with George Moore every Friday. He touched and engaged a few hundred of us each week, and was a strong, positive influence on the large High School age crowd. He touched so many....Rest in peace, George

George was such an inspiration to youth at Lawrence Central H.S. in Indianapolis in the 1970s. Those YL Friday morning breakfasts were standing room only. He knew teenagers like no one else and his positive influence kept many of us from going astray at a time when there were lots of negative external pressures. He will be missed on earth but we look forward to seeing him again in heaven. He was (and is) a great man. We send his family our prayers.

This was part of the last sermon George gave at West Hills. "Is Jesus Christ The Lord of our lives? Are we committed to Him and to Him alone? In the end of all things, will He be Lord? Will we hold to Him? Will we cling to Him?...

'I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I live in this body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me... (Galatians 2:20)'

Friends, that is my deepest prayer for you - that you so deeply feel the love of God."

We didn't know it at the time, that would be the last message Pastor George gave at West Hills Church. We are so blessed to know him. Thank you, George.

George was my Young Life leader at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. At 55 years old now, I still often awake early Friday morning and remember the great fun we had at our 6:30 am club. We came for eggs and doughnuts, and then sat on the floor as he led songs and taught us about Christ. Few men have had such a profound effect for good on my life and that of my family. Well done George, I will continue to follow your example.
