Helmuth Dahlke Obituary

Helmuth W. Dahlke

October 1, 1933 - September 27, 2025

Helmuth Dahlke, age 91, was born in Delmenhorst, Germany to the late Max and Ana Dahlke on October 1, 1933. After receiving his Abitur at the Delmenhorst Gymnasium, he did his undergraduate work at The Sorbonne in Paris, France and at The University of Nebraska at Omaha. After that he served in the United States Army at Fort Ord. His graduate work was done at U.C.L.A. and Harvard Business School.

Helmuth was a businessman. He worked for the Brandeis Department Store for 27 years and was Senior Vice President of Operations and Research when the store was sold. After that he was Executive Vice President of Alan Baer and Associates for another 20 years. While working at Brandeis and Alan Baer and Associates, Helmuth acquired some farmland in Southwest Iowa which he managed until his death.

Helmuth enjoyed playing soccer and tennis in Germany and in Omaha. Later his favorite sport was foxhunting in North Omaha and Southwest Iowa where he was Master of Foxhounds for both the North Hills Hunt and the Nodaway River Hounds for many years. His favorite vacations were his annual trips to Fort Robinson with his family and horses.

Helmuth was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Uwe Dahlke, of Bremen, Germany. He is survived by his wife, Jane; two daughters, Ayn (Casey) Taylor of Clarinda, Iowa and Rachel (Brad) Bessey of Omaha, Neb.; as well as six grandchildren who are Kera Davis of Red Oak, Iowa, Noah and Asher Taylor of Clarinda, Iowa, and Brayden, Cara, and Barrett Bessey of Omaha, Neb.

Helmuth's family is very grateful for the many caregivers he has had during his latter years. Their dedication helped Helmuth pass away peacefully in the home that he loved while surrounded by his family. A service and inurnment will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 2 p.m.

Memorial gifts are suggested to the Ponca Hills Volunteer Fire Department, The Parkinson's Foundation, and St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Omaha, Neb.
