I have many great memories of Dr, Edney when he was my Chief Resident in General Surgery and I was a medical student at the VA in Omaha. His training taught me to love surgery and after graduation from UNMC I felt compelled to choose a surgical specialty. I completed my training in an OB/GYN residency at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minnepolis, MN. I practiced in that specialty in the Twin Cities until 2016 and have subsequently retired.
My thoughts and prayers also go out to Dr. Edney's family and loved ones.

My heart goes out to all of the Edney family in this senseless tragedy for which there are no words. It was my privilege to grow up in Holy Name with the Edneys. I cherish our lifelong friendship over the years that came with great joy as well as sorrows. May dear Jim rest in peace in God's loving arms. My love and prayers are with each of you in this painful time of grief.

Thoughts and Prayers are with Debbie and extended family. Jim was my resident when I rotated through surgery as a medical student. Without a doubt, he contributed, more than any other single person, to my decision to go into surgery. When I began my surgery residency as an intern, Jim was my Chief Resident at the VA. He saved my backside many times! I know he was a huge supporter of me. It was his unwavering encouragement that frequently kept me going and contributed so much to my career. His influence on my personal, and so many other's, careers will always be remembered. He was taken too early!!! A grateful thank you to his family for sharing so much of Jim with so many of us through the years. He will be sadly missed.
