Jessie McCoy Obituary

McCoy, Jessie Ann
(Bradford)
Age 70

Beaverton, OR. She passed away surrounded by family at her home on October 21, 2011. She was born in Omaha, NE on August 8, 1941 to the late Dana Cuthbert Bradford and the late Ann Gooch Bradford. Jessie grew up in Omaha and graduated from Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in 1959. She attended the University of Nebraska for two years, where she was an Alpha Phi. She left Omaha and landed in San Francisco, CA, where she worked for the Bank of America. She met and married LCDR Walter Lee McCoy. Together they raised three daughters in Camarillo, CA, where Jessie pursued her art, finished her Bachelor of Arts degree at UCSB and taught swimming lessons in her backyard pool for twenty-one years. She spent the last sixteen years in Beaverton, OR in order to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She worked at NIKE, Inc for four years in the Community Affairs Department, and pursued her passion for art. A life-long Nebraska Cornhusker fan, she cheered her team from a distance, getting back for games whenever she could. Jessie is survived by her husband, Walter Lee McCoy; daughters, Caroline McCoy, Courtney McCoy (David Woods), and Catherine McCoy Schini (Todd); grandchildren, Dylan and Scott DiBenedetto, Tess and Jack Sparks, and Kate and Karabeth Schini; siblings, Dana C. (Patricia) Bradford Jr., Anthony Bradford, Peter Bradford, and Judy Valverde; and family, Christian DiBenedetto, Meg Pitman, and Nannette Wien.
There will be no Service at Jessie's request, and family will gather to CELEBRATE Jessie's life during her favorite time of year. Memorial contributions may be made to Compassion and Choices of Oregon (www.compassionoforegon.org/contribute), and the Oregon Humane Society.
With heavy hearts, gratitude, admiration and love, we let Mama Jess go.

Dear Courtney and McCoy family - I was so sorry to hear about Jessie passing. I have many fond memories of doing arts and crafts in her kitchen. She always was a great listener and gave us young girls sound advice. She was smart

Dear Jessie's Family,
In the years since you left Camarillo, Jessie has continued to be a been part of our community in the wonderful memories of the hundreds of kids that learned how to swim and lots more about their ability to achieve a skill that would stay with them for a lifetime. We still pass by "Jessie's house" on Manzano and smile and that will also last for many more years.
Sol, Laura,& David Chooljian and Laura McAvoy send our condolences to you.

Dear Walt, Carrie, Courtney, Catherine, and all others who Jessie touched in life:
i was stunned and immensely saddened when i received the news of jessie's passing today from my mom. i recognize that our time on this earth is limited, but jessie had such zeal, energy and love for life and others that it's just hard to fathom that she is no longer with us. rest assured though, that she's got st. peter, and probably a few others up there, wearing husker red over their robes.

i will never forget the fantastic times that our families shared together over the years. my only regret is that we have fallen out of touch. please call and look us up if you are ever in the bay area. there is always a place for you in our home.

i will be praying for all of the living who were touched by jessie's love. i will pray for jessie as well, but i believe that people who live as she did are never denied their heavenly reward.

god bless all of you -

Dear Walt, Carrie, Courtney and Catherine,
We are deeply saddened by the news of Jessie's passing.
She brightened the lives of all who knew her. We have such fond memories of our time with all of you in Corpus Christi and California.
Of all of our friends during these periods, Jessie is the one our children remember the most. She was always smiling, full of fun, and had a great unique sense of humor! She told our daughter, Megan (age 3) to introduce herself as "Megan Maureen, my Irish Colleen Browne", and she did, for a long time!
May your sadness be lightened in the knowledge that you have been such a loving and close family.

We were saddened to hear the sad news regarding Jessie's passing. She added so much to our Camarillo community. She could be counted on to help at school in so many ways. Her winning logo still is used for Pleasant Valley School District communications. We will always treasure her greeting us with that magnetic smile. All of you will be in our prayers and thoughts.

Dear Walt and Girls, You are in our thoughts and prayers. We have so many wonderful memories of Jessie and your family during your years in Camarillo - from our gourmet monthly cooking group, swim team meets, and swimming lessons in your back yard for our youngest swimmer Jeremy. I can still see your beautiful dog jumping in the pool to join the little ones during their swim lessons! Jessie was so talented in so many ways! May she rest in peace. God bless you all.

Even though Jessie has been away from Camarillo for many years now, we always remember her with great fondness. She taught both Stephen and Leigh Ann to swim, which they dearly loved each year. There was great disappointment when the need for lessons was outgrown. We often speak of the times she shared in our lives and have reminissed with fondness at the learning of the sad news of Jessie's passing. She had a zest for life and great times which was infectious to all who were around her. I really don't think she ever met a stranger! Everyone was a wondrful friend of hers. Just follow the laugh and she could be found. She was such a dear, sweet lady and an asset to this community while she was here. She will always be in our hearts and you are so fortunate to have many wonderful memories of her to help you through these times. Our sincere condolences to the entire family.

I was so saddened to hear of the death of my first swim instructor. I remember many summers in the McCoy's backyard in Camarillo. I have so many fond memories of blowing bubbles, kicking, and knee dives from the side of the pool perched on a soggy towel. Thank you for the memories, the love, and the coaching.

May God be with your family as they go through this time of loss and grief.
