Joan Nigro Obituary
Apr 2, 1934 – Sep 23, 2012
Joan passed away after battling breast cancer for more than three years. One of 10 children, she was born in Baltimore, MD. Joan married in 1953 and moved to Omaha in late 1954. In 1977, she was named Volunteer of the Year for the Nebraska American Cancer Society. Joan served on the Nebraska Real Estate Commission from 1996 – 2002, and on the Omaha Housing Authority Board from 2002 – 2011. In 2010, Joan was named Realtor of the Year. Joan loved politics, Nebraska football, baking, and travel. Joan is survived by her son Joe Nigro (Shari) of Lincoln and their three children, Margaret, Betsy, and Nick; her daughter, Laurie Duncan (Phillip) of Dallas and their two daughters, Leah and Kara; her daughter, Amy Nigro of Cincinnati and Amy's daughters, Sofia and Olivia; Amy's fiancé, Sharif Riggen and their son, Drake. Five siblings survive Joan. She leaves her three special, devoted friends Marge Tilton, Donnie Lewellin, and David Johnson as well as many other dear friends. Honorary pallbearers are Ben Nelson, Mike Fahey, Mike Boyle, Anne Boyle, Frank Brown, and Brad Ashford.
FAMILY VISITATION Thursday, Oct. 4, 5pm to 7pm at First United Methodist Church, 7020 Cass St. MEMORIAL SERVICE Friday, Oct. 5, 11am at the church.
