John attended the University of Virginia and Midland College, where he met and married Judy Christensen upon graduation. Both children, Jason and Heather, were born while John attended Creighton Law School, graduating in December 1972. John was so proud that Jason graduated Prep and Creighton Law School, and Heather graduated Duchesne and earned a Master's Degree. John was senior partner at Kutak-Rock for 21 years, handling significant and complex litigation cases. He argued before the Nebraska Supreme Court. John became a partner at Blackwell-Sanders when they opened a law office in Omaha. He developed and managed commerical litigation practice. "He rose to practice at the highest levels in the legal business", James Schaefer, attny. John always found time to judge moot court tournaments at Creighton or speak at grade schools on career days.

In 1996, they purchased a home on Waikoloa Beach Dr, HI, where John was President of the HOA. John Loved golf, running, swimming, tennis at Regency Club where he served as the President of the HOA. John never learned wind surfing, but Judy did!

John entered hospice care and passed five days later after spending time with his family. He was especially grateful being with his pride and joy, grandchild, Ella, beloved daughter, Heather, Judy, and Jason's fiance, Dr. Fazzia Rouf, who has been invaluable. Family gathered at Morningstar Lutheran, final resting will be in Hawaii. Family remembers a gentle man and a gentleman. Memorials may be directed to Open Door Mission and Siena Francis House.
