Joseph Vukov Obituary

Vukov, Joseph Matthew

March 13, 1935 - October 21, 2021

Joseph Matthew Vukov, age 86, passed away on October 21, 2021 at his home in Omaha. Joe was born to first generation Croatian immigrants, Joseph and Irene (Kopcanski) Vukov. He was the second of three children and grew up in South Omaha.

He attended South High School and decided to enter the United States Air Force in 1952. Joe spent four years in the Air Force and achieved the rank of Airman First Class. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Joe spent time at Thule Air Base in Greenland and Tyndall Airforce Base in Panama City, FL. Upon completing his service, Joe returned to Omaha, attended classes at the University of Omaha, and began his lifelong career as an insurance salesman.

Joe married the love of his life, Lillian Cronican on September 11, 1961. Joe and Lil had six children between 1963 and 1975. Joe worked hard at his craft while raising 6 children and started his own company in 1977, the Joe Vukov Real Estate and Insurance Agency. Joe spent the next 42 years building a business and providing service to hundreds of clients in his community.

Joe was actively involved in making South Omaha a better place. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the South Omaha Optimist Club, The Boy Scouts of America, the Disabled American Veterans, The Federation of Eagles, the Croatian Culteral Society, and St. Mary's Church.

Joe loved to hunt, fish, and golf with family and friends. He loved the Nebraska Huskers football team, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by sister, Catherine Donahue. He is survived by wife, Lillian; children, Joe Vukov, Suzan Downing, Mark Vukov, Tom (Lisa) Vukov, Jennifer (Greg) Andrade, and Patrick Vukov; grandchildren, Taylor, Savanna, Audrey, Maddy, and Lilly; and brother, Frank (Donna) Vukov.

My thoughts and prayers for your loss. My oldest memories of Joe and of course Lil are when they had their offices down in Sunshine Drive. It was then that began the friendship with my dad the late Bob "the barber" Dorsch. I can remember riding our bikes down and stopping at the pharmacy for some candy and walking down the side walk and seeing the Vukov´s working then stop in to the barber shop for some double bubble gum and/or dum dum suckers. Thank you for providing an important service to the community.

Deepest sympathy to family of Joe. He was one of my favorite people to work with at Timmerman & Sons Feeding Co. He would make his yearly visits to our office and always remembered everyone with a Christmas gift. He was a very caring, loving man that went out of his way to meet his clients needs. Joe will be missed so much and prayers to all family members.
