Kathleen Owen Obituary

Owen, Kathleen Elizabeth (Fuchs)

October 18, 1944 - August 24, 2023

Kathleen Elizabeth (Fuchs) Owen, aged 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24th. Kay was an Omaha native, a graduate of Westside High School and the University of Nebraska. She was a proud Kappa Kappa Gamma where she first learned bridge which became a passion of hers later in life. An interior designer by trade, she had an incredible eye for décor and style, ultimately opening a retail store called Raffinee. She loved needlepointing, reading, and cooking and was one of the more intellectually curious people one could ever meet. She loved a good caper, and sometimes she made suggestions that prompted questionable and/or illegal behavior. She hosted a regular round table at her home during the '80s and '90s where laughs, ideas, coffee and cigarettes could be shared. She was a mom to many, an enabler to some, and she will be missed greatly. Succeeding Kay are her brother, Mike Fuchs; husband, Robert; daughter, Christine Harry (Bob); son, Tyler Owen (Lisa), grandsons: Owen and Duncan Harry, Jack, Leo and Henry Owen; granddaughters, Wallis Harry and Daisy Owen; and two dogs, Tucker and Bertie (Albert).

Michael and I send our condolences to Kay's family, including Tucker and Bertie. Just last week I was thinking we needed to get in touch about seeing a patio tabletop performance from Tucker and dinner. She was a joy to spend time with - she had an indomitable spirit, she had a great sense of humor, she asked probing, thought-provoking questions and she was generous. We are richer having known her and she will be greatly missed.

Kay was my across 84th Street neighbor and mentored me in all things Omaha as I was Philadelphia girl who came to Omaha courtesy of the Union Pacific Railroad. Kay was generous by nature. Aside from the philanthropic activities for which she supported tirelessly, including the Omaha Symphony and Opera Omaha, Kay´s children were her treasures. Chris and Tyler would come across the street if they felt the need not to be home alone until Kay was finished with her community obligations. I still have the Valentine cards Chris and Tyler made for my children.
Kay will be missed but never forgotten by everyone´s lives she touched.
