Age 56

York, NE. Died Friday, March 28, 2014 at York. He was born on August 30, 1957 to C.G. Kelly and Virginia (Holen) Holthus at Lexington, NE. Kendell graduated from York High School in 1975 then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Nebraska Wesleyan University. After college, he owned and operated a farm in Sherman County for twelve years. In 1994, Kendell returned to York, joining his family's business at Cornerstone Bank, as a commercial and agricultural loan officer. He currently served as executive vice president and was a member of the bank's board of directors, executive committee, and senior loan committee. On February 17, 2001 Kendell was united in marriage to Amy Ahrens in Edwards, CO. To this union three daughters were born: Lilly (12), Baylie (10), and Tatum (8).
Kendell was a graduate of the American Bankers Association's Commercial Lending School, the Kansas and Nebraska Banker's Association's Advanced School of Banking, and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a graduate of the Nebraska LEAD program and Class II of the Nebraska Bankers Association's Leadership Program. He also was a past chairman of the (nba) Nebraska bankers association and was currently and has served for several years on the Concordia foundation board. Kendell served locally on the York County Ag Society, York Municipal Airport Authority and the York Community Builders. Kendell was a member of the York Rotary Club, past president of the United Way, York Public Schools, and the York Country Club. He was also past executive director of Faith Lutheran Church where he was an active member.
Kendell enjoyed boating with friends, piloting his plane, and attending his daughter's school activities and sporting events. Kendell loved spending time with his family and taking care of Amy and his girls.
Kendell is survived by his wife and daughters of York; his parents of York; sisters: Kris (Greg) Holoch of York and Beth (John) Godbout of Paradise Valley, AZ; brother Tom (Marcy) Holthus of LaJolla, CA; mother and father-in-law Lyle and Linda Ahrens of Gibbon, NE; and sister-in-law Suzanne (Scott) Caldwalder of Minden, NE. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and a host of friends and a special family friend Dana Grenfell of York.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
FUNERAL SERVICES are scheduled for 3pm, Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the York City Auditorium with the Reverends Allen Bergstrazer and Jeff Ehlers officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, York. VISITATION will be held from 1pm-9pm on Monday and 9am-4pm on Tuesday at the mortuary. The family will greet friends at Faith Lutheran Church, (1214 N. Ohio Ave.) from 6pm-8pm on Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be directed to the York Community Foundation for scholarships for students going into the banking or medical field. Memorials may also be directed to the donor's choice. Condolences may be left for the family at www.metzmortuary.com
