Marilyn Thomsen, 84, died in Thousand Oaks, California, April 22, 2025.
She was born in Akron, Iowa, in 1940 to George and Ella Willer.
Marilyn worked at Methodist Hospital in Omaha for 40 years, retiring as manager of the pathology center. She was an active member of Lord of Love Lutheran Church.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her son, Scott Thomsen; daughter-in-law, Lynn Thomsen; grandchildren, Savannah Thomsen, Jonathon Lamb, Blaise Lamb and Lexi Maloney; two great granddaughters; her brothers, Curtis Willer and Rolin Willer; and her sister, Karen Swanson and brother-in-law, Julian Swanson.
A memorial service is scheduled at Lord of Love, 10405 Fort St, Omaha, NE 68134, on May 16. Visitation will start at 5:30 p.m. and the service at 6:30 p.m. Burial is scheduled May 17 at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Hwy 12 and C16 in Akron, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Lord of Love or the American Cancer Society are encouraged. Those who want to bring flowers are asked to bring a single rose, her favorite.

Marilyn and I were roommates, along with Sally Peterson and Nancy Smith. It was just after we completed our Med Tech training and we lived at the new apartment building, the Wedgewood in Omaha. Here she is at our apartment I think with her future husband, Jan.

My sincere condolences to the friends and family members of Marilyn Thomsen. I will always hold a special due of gratitude for her. While she was the laboratory manager for the Pathology Center at Methodist Hospital In Omaha NE she gave me an option and opportunity to continue working as a casual employee rather than submit my resignation. Working weekends allowed me to balance raising and caring for my daughters while maintaining my competency having a career I valued and enjoyed. I´ve had over thirty years of a career at the Methodist laboratory and will always be grateful to her supporting me as a working mother so many years ago. She was a true professional and working career woman her own family should be so proud of her leadership and legacy she leaves with her years of service. I also remember every spring she would bring in enough daffodils, one for each employee, that we would put in a test tube of water to brighten up the lab and support her charity. I wish I had the opportunity to thank her in person but will hold the gratitude of knowing her and her kindness.

Marilyn will be missed. I always looked forward to hearing from her at Christmas. We went through Med Tech school together and were roommates for a couple of years after. RIP.
