Perry Alsager Obituary

ALSAGER-Perry Arvid, age 79 passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday September 12, 2007. He was born on February 17, 1928 in Webster, South Dakota. Perry moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1943 where he graduated from South High School and then went on to receive his college degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha. He was a Battalion Ammunition Sergeant with the 300th Armored Field Artillery from 1950-1952 during the Korean conflict. In 1952 he married JoAnn Marie Hoban and had three daughters. Perry started at the Kellogg Omaha Plant in 1944 an hourly employee, worked in Traffic and Purchasing in Omaha until being transferred to Battle Creek in 1957. In Battle Creek, he worked in the Distribution and Logistics Departments as a Manager of West Coast Distribution, Central states Distribution, and Corporate Special Services and Distribution at -East. He was on the Board of Directors and treasurer of BC/CAL/KAL Inland Development Corporation, served on the Board of Directors and was treasurer of the Ft. Custer Tax Increment Finance Authority, and on the board of Directors of Battle Creek Unlimited. He was a member and president of the Battle Creek Traffic Club. He served on the Executive Committee of the local Camp Fire Council for many years. In 1989 Perry retired from the Kellogg company after 45 years of service.
After retirement Perry and JoAnn,his loving wife 49 years, enjoyed a winter home in Florida until JoAnn's passing in 2000. They were both very active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Battle Creek for over 30 years. In 2003 Perry married Shirley McKimmey and returned to Omaha, NE. He continued wintering in his Florida home, golfing, traveling, and playing bridge with his friends. Perry and Shirley were members of Living Faith Methodist Church. Perry had a passion for life and lived to the fullest everyday. His greatest passions were family and golf. He shared his passion for golf by teaching all of his grandchildren the game. Perry was a loving father and devoted grandfather whose constant guidance, and support created the strong bond that kept his family close throughout the years. Perry was preceded into heaven by his first wife, Iris; his brother, Richard Alsager, his parents, George and Flomond Alsager, and his brother-in-law Ted. Surviving are his sisters Gladys Kurcz, Lucille (Frank) Fidone, and sister-in-law Louise Alsager, his, wife Shirley, his three daughters Pam (Ron) Bloomberg of Lansing, MI, Penny (Wilson Lee) Alsager of Rochester, Minnesota, and Patty (Mike) McGeorge of Battle Creek, Michigan, and seven adored grandchildren who were the light of his life, Andy and Matt Bloomberg, Catherine and Christopher Lee, Lindsay, Justin, and Brandon McGeorge. He loved them dearly and supported them in everything they did. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, relatives, and golf buddies who will greatly miss him.
Arrangements made by John A Gentlemen Mortuaries. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Living Faith Methodist Churc located at 5310 South 182nd Avenue beginning at 10 AM. Memorials can be given to the charity of your choice. JOHN A. GENTLEMAN MORTUARIES
