Richard Torres Obituary

Richard Torres

March 10, 1956 - February 28, 2025

Richard Torres, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on February 28, 2025. He was born on March 10, 1956, in Omaha, NE, to Carmen and Gregorio Torres.

In 1982, Richard married the love of his life, Sheryl Krause, and together they built a beautiful family. He was a devoted father to Stefanie Torres Chan (Adam) and Gregory Torres (Carla) and a proud grandfather to Kasen York, Maxwell and Allison Torres, and Everleigh Chan.

Richard was one of eight children and is survived by his brothers, Michael (Betty) and Roy (Kathy) Torres; and his sisters, Juanita Velez (Richard), Julia Munch (Joe), and Lillian Bonacci. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Linda Gomez Torres; and his brother, Daniel Torres.

Growing up in Omaha, Richard attended South High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he honorably served both stateside and in Germany. Following his military service, he pursued a successful career in sales.

Richard had a deep love for the outdoors and took great pride in his yard and gardens. He was happiest attending his children's and grandchildren's activities, sharing his passion for music, and enjoying time with family and friends. A trumpet player, he performed in local bands during the 1980s, bringing joy to many with his music.

He is also survived by many loving relatives, dear friends, and his loyal furry companion, Claire.

Richard will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held on March 7, 2025, at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with memorial service immediately following. Memorials may be directed to the family.

As Richard's JH Band Director at Indian Hill Jr. High, I've very fond memories of Richard as an enthusiastic young man who excelled at playing the trumpet! Richard was a very bright student, who possessed a very outgoing personality. We rediscovered one another a few years ago, and soon became Facebook friends. I'm deeply saddened by his passing & my heartfelt prayers are with his family and friends as we mourn his passing, as well as, celebrate Richard's life!

Dear Torres family,
I am saddened today by the news of Richard´s passing. I have known Richard since kindergarten, a very long time, a lifetime indeed. His kindness to me and especially to my mother, will never be forgotten. He always had a kind word to say and was respectful.
He will be remembered always, never forgotten.
May God grant you peace and understanding in the coming days and keep you wrapped in His loving arms.
God Bless.
