Dr. Lawrence was a kind and caring person who made lasting contributions to the Omaha Public Schools music program. He was a beloved mentor to students at Burke High School as their teacher and so appreciated by the OPS music teachers as a supervisor. He was an outstanding musician with a tremendous creative sense of humor that made working with him a valuable yet enjoyable experience. We were all fortunate to have worked with such a wonderful person!

To the family of Doc Lawrence,
I will always be grateful for the teaching ( Burke '77)and inspiration from Doc. He inspired and gave growth opportunities to young musicians. I loved working for him making half-time props, being the 'uniform lady', letting us make our own Wonder Strings Class, and writing and performing Bits and Pieces skits. I have a Bid Daddy and the Duck Tails LP. He showed us how to share our music, humor, and lives with others. My condolences to his dear family.

To Steve´s Family,
Steve was a talented, unique and funny guy!! Kids loved "Doc" and flocked to his program. I spent a fair amount of time with him setting the stage for performances and working on the musical. He gave me the honor of singing "Lil Darlin" at one of his "Big Daddy". Bright, funny and a wonderful teacher. Thanks so much for sharing him with us!!

Dr. Lawrence had a special gift for working with students at every level. For me, he gave me the opportunity to perform a senior solo violin concerto with the Burke HS Orchestra my senior year. But for 3 years prior, he organized chamber music opportunities, including piano trio and clarinet quartet ensembles. He saw the talents of his students and facilitated ways to expand their musical horizons. I am indebted to him for his support and encouragement for my career as a musician and teacher. RIP Dr. Lawrence.

I was so very lucky to have known him! He has given his wife and family the strength to carry on to positively impact others. Thank you Steve for showing us how to be our best selves. 1975-1978 Burke High band. Doc made band fun and exciting, changing half time shows every week, putting together a jazz band, creating a small group called Big Daddy and the Ducktails that performed for a school dance! Gave his all to his students and made us have trust in ourselves and learn the importance of respect! RIP Doc, have some music ready for us to join you in your heavenly band when we cross over the rainbow bridge

Dr. Lawrence was a man of integrity and talent. I was fortunate to have him as a band, orchestra and music comp teacher, as well as being a "Chicklette" in Big Daddy. His talents were extraordinary and his way of making each of us feel valued and accepted was an amazing part of his teaching. I am among so many who feel blessed beyond measure for Doc and how he shaped our lives. I pray for his family as they will miss him the most - God bless you during this time.

"Doc" was a joyful, creative, inspirational and encouraging music teacher, orchestral and band conductor and performer (Big Daddy!). His presence in my life during my Burke High School years was a rich blessing. May his memory remain a blessing for all he encountered.

Dear Lawrence family, Losing a fine person like your husband, your dad and your granddad is a very difficult thing to do. Steve and Bonny were good friends of ours for many years when we lived in Omaha. We could count on Steve to have something funny to say to make all of us laugh and smile. He was a good man ...always ready to help us when we needed it. Steve will be missed. Our prayers go out to Bonny and the family. Sincerely, Mary Sayre

Stephen L Lawrence was one of the finest men I have ever had the pleasure to call "friend." He was smart, funny and extremely talented both as a teacher and as a musician. He was a very kind and loyal friend. He loved his wife and family and his beloved dog Rascal. He may be gone but his memory will live forever in the hearts of people who loved him. Rest in Peace Steve.
