I only knew Tom briefly, but he is one of those rare people who you don't have to know long to like and to know well. We had a wonderful interaction during his visit to my lab in Wyoming. This included an after-work drive in the Wyoming foothills during which Tom was elated by the simple pleasure of spotting a moose in the marshland on the side of the road. It is a fond memory for me, as it seemed to reflect his essential happiness as a human being. Tom lived well and conducted his business in an honest, straightforward, and dignified fashion. We will all miss him, especially his family. But, take comfort in the fact that you can be the proudest, as you knew him longest and best.

I am so saddened by Tom's passing. He has one of the most compassionate guys I have met. He had such a heart for animals and people. I new he would hit it off with my dad and introduced them to each other and I was right they hit it off. I don't know 2 guys that love cars especially Fords more. Tom helped out with several pet issues. 1 very serious and rare (puppy stomach folded). Tom was so helpful and compassionate. Tom has helped me with business advice the past several years (we bought a hunt & kennel club). Tom always made me laugh when on the phone by saying "my day is shaping up to be like a train wreck" or something to that effect.
He had so much to offer everyone and was taken too soon. Tom will be greatly missed.
My deepest condolences to Darla, Tom's family and all those that love and miss Tom.

I met Tom along with Joe Denhart at Texas A&M on a visit during late January of 2006 to evaluate some potential technology in which Lloyds had an interest in pursuing. It was early spring or late winter down south depending on your temperature tolerance. As Tom mentioned, "this is an early summer day for us in Nebraska." The day was spent with Tom from sunrise to sunset as well as part of the next day. We took a walking tour of the Texas A&M Campus with great weather and good conversation. From the first minute that I met Tom, it was like we knew each other for a long time. He was the type of person that made you feel comfortable from the beginning. He was truly concerned with all creatures and will be greatly missed by all of us that were fortunate enough to have come into contact with him.

Tom and I were fellow students in the veterinary class of 1988 at Iowa State University. Life took him on various paths of endeavor, achieving a veterinary internship, a residency in veterinary surgery, a law degree and a master's degree in business. He was prepared to offer so much to the profession, but was taken from us far too soon. I will always remember fondly our car journeys from Ames to Omaha and back to school, usually in the wee morning hours, likely with minimal conversation!

Please accept my condolences. Tom was a 3rd year resident at Iowa State the year I started working as an anesthesia technician there. He was a great guy and a great friend, who made a scary 1st year for me seem survivable.

I can't say enough about Dr. Carlson. I was fortuate to work with him at Rohrig Animal Hospital when he was the overnight Vet. At the time, he was in Law School, and I'm sure, very overworked, but no matter how many animal emergencies we had, he was always patient and kind to me, even at 3:00am. He later became my teacher of Law and Ethics, and not only was he a great teacher, but I admired his thirst for knowledge. I was always impressed with his memory, also. It could be years since we last talked, and he would ask me, "Did you ever find that tail light cover for your Delta 88? He was very genuine to everyone around him, and he will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy goes out to all family and friends.

Tom was truly a unique individual. He was not just a caring veterinarian with a love of animals but his selfless, unselfish, caring and compassionate attitude toward his fellow man was incredible. No matter how busy, he always had time to help and was always offering his assistance to those in need. We experienced that first hand during our own tragic circumstance.
During our 5 years in Omaha we also had some great times working together. Being fellow veterinarians, we constantly encountered humorous situations and Tom's great sense of humour gave us many laughs.
Tom became a valued friend and it was hard to say goodbye when we left. It is harder now. He will will always be part of our memories of Omaha.
In Aussie terms he would be described as "A real beaut bloke, mate". To us he was much better than that.
To Tom's parents and family, paramount in Tom's love, and to Darla we send our sincere condolences and sympathy. Our thoughts are with you all at this time.

Tom was a dear friend of mine. We worked together at Biocor. It was nice knowing that someone else's office could be just as cluttered as mine. He was such a pleasant person to be around, enjoyed life to the fullest. I am so saddened to have lost such a good friend. May God be with his family during this difficult time.

I met Tom through our mutual friend Dr Mansfield, when they were both budding young veterinary students. Though we didn't see each other often, it was always a joy when he would visit our clinic. We were lucky to be able to watch him mature into a fine doctor and surgeon. Tom touched so may peoples lives in such a positive and caring way. We all know our little world, inside the veterinary community especially, has lost someone very dear and irreplaceable.

I worked with Tom for a short while. In that time it was obvious to see that he was talented and dedicated whilst being modest and unassuming.
Tom did not seek credit for himself but often bestowed praise on others. He had the gift of making you feel better for having talked to him.

I met Tom through the Classic T-Bird Club, however, our connection was our mutual love for critters. I know Tom is taking care of all of those animals he wanted to help. I will miss Tom very much and look forward to seeing him again with all of the animals we have lost.

Tom was a wonderful, caring man, who seemed to truly enjoy life. I worked with him at Lloyd Inc. in Shenandoah IA. No matter how busy his day was he always found the time to stop and ask how you were doing or how your weekend went. Tom never had a harsh word to say about anyone and alway seemed to have a smile on his face, even when you knew he didn't feel good. We have an empty spot in our hearts at the Lloyd Inc. Family, and we will miss Tom very much!

I knew Tom many years ago at St. Roberts (we were classmates) and I spoke to him a couple times in the last 6 years. I remember him with this great grin and wonderful personality. I thought of Tom a good amount as I drove from my parents home pass his house across from meadowlane park and always saw the dog crate out front and usually a dog/dogs close by. I am so sorry for the family and friends who have lost a great man.God bless you all.
