Donna Freistedt Obituary

VERNON CENTER >> Donna L. Freistedt, age 78, of Central Square, N. Y. and formerly of Vernon Center, N.Y. passed away peacefully on March 31, 2013 joining her beloved husband, Raymond.
She was born in Coudersport, Pa., a daughter of the late Gordon C. and Bernice Badmone Smith, Wellsboro, Pa.
She was a former member of St. James Episcopal Church, Clinton, N.Y. and a graduate of Clinton High School Class of 1952.
Donna was united in marriage Dec. 27, 1952 to Raymond S. Freistedt also of Clinton. They spent many years of shared happiness at their residence on Fancett Road, Vernon Center, N.Y. and the winter residence in Zephyrhills, Fla.
Donna was predeceased by her husband of 48 years on Feb. 14, 2000 in Florida.
She worked in the banking business and the V.V.S. High School cafeteria. Donna was also a housewife, enjoying outside work, hunting with her husband, traveling and spending summers north with her family and friends.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Darby (Brian) Windey, Central Square, N.Y., and granddaughter, Cheryl (Michael) Tracy-Brady, Hastings, N.Y.; as well as two sisters, Bonnie (Jim) Leavitt, Rome, N.Y., Linda (Bob) Mellen, Davenport, Fla.; two brothers, Derl D. Sarasota, Fla., Thomas G. (Amy) Smith, Horseshoe, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Arlene Smith, Woodrich, Pa.; cousins, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and special friends Colleen, Jody, Chey, Cody Thieme plus Paul and Carol Taylor. She was predeceased by two brothers, Perry A. Smith, Lawrence, Pa., April 17, 2003, Barry J. Smith, Fort Meyers, Fla., Feb. 28, 2002; a sister, Ellen Harrington formerly of Oriskany Falls, N.Y. and Henderson, N.C. , Dec. 13, 2010.
The family would like to thank Oswego County Hospice -- Becky, Pat, Kathy, Carol and Dignity, plus Kath and Donna for making Donna comfortable under their care. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Vernon Center Fire Dept. or Ladies Auxiliary, Vernon Center, N.Y. or Friends of Oswego County Hospice or a favorite charity.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday April 6, 2012 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland, N.Y.
