Sherrill- Richard O. Wickens, of Pexton Street passed away late Sunday evening September 15, 2019 of complications from his courageous battle with cancer.He was born on October 22, 1938 in Oneida, New York a son of the late Arthur and Florence Wickens and was a graduate of Oneida School.On February 15, 1958 Dick (Red) and Nancy were united in marriage in Oneida’s First Methodist Church and shared that loving union of over sixty years together.Prior to his retirement in 1991 Dick was employed by the Sherrill DPW. Before that he also worked for 7-Up Bottling Company of Syracuse and Hershey’s Ice Cream of Oneida.He was a member of the Sherrill Fire Department, the Octagun Hunting Club and the Owls Club. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing at Utica-Rome Speedway, NASCAR, boating, camping, traveling, playing cards and later in life he enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler and dining out with the love of his life.He was a loving devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed the company of family and friends.Surviving are his three children, Rick (Cindy) Wickens, Pam Wickens and Marsha Jewell, 8 grandchildren: Dave, Bill and Christy Randel, Tim Wickens, Nicole (Steve) Crawford, David Jr. and Emily Jewell, Michelle (T.J.) Coon, 18 great-grandchildren, one sister, Linda Kaska, brother, Duane (Janet) Wickens, sister-in-law Betty Wickens, sister-in-law Pat (Christian) Grabow and sister-in-law Joyce (Alex) Stepanski and several nieces and nephews.Dick was predeceased by his wife Nancy on October 19, 2018 and brother Stu Wickens and brother-in-law Bob Kaska.Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill, NY. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Oneida, New York.
