I worked with Art for 30+ years at the EPA lab in Athens, Georgia and I have many fond memories of him. He was the first baseman on our EPA softball team and to me it was like having Hank Aaron in the lineup! Most of all he was a kind and generous person that will be greatly missed. Death, be not proud
Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

My heart-felt condolences on your great personal loss. I grieve for the community's loss as well. Art was, as others have said, a true blessing to those who knew him. He was welcoming and kind, and beamed on others with a joyful face unequaled by any one else I've ever known.
Sincerest regards,

Art was a good man and a nice guy! He and I were colleagues at the lab and teammates on the lab basketball team back in the 60's. Although I haven't seen him for 25 years you don't forget a person like Art. My sincere condolences to his family.

Art was one of those people I met many years ago at the EPA. He always had a ready smile and a good outlook on life. He is well remembered by those who knew him and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Art and I reported to work for the U.S. Public Health Service in Atlanta on the very same day, back in Sept. of 1962, and worked together for several years thereafter, continuing into the Environmental Protection Agency era. I always enjoyed Art's friendly attitude and wonderful spirit. May God bless your family.
