GuyNelle Davis Obituary

GuyNelle Mitchell Davis, 98, formerly of Winterville, died Sunday, November 29, 2015 at her son's home in Alabaster, Alabama.

Mrs. Davis was born May 11, 1917 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Guy and Inez Mitchell. She was a member of Winterville First Baptist Church, Winterville, GA. She was a homemaker, and ministered to many in various acts of kindness.

Funeral service will be 11:00 at Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, GA, on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, with visitation at 9:30, and burial in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include 2 sons: Jerry L Davis, and wife Elsie, of Newnan, GA; and Lamar Davis, and wife Liz, of Alabaster, AL; a sister, Gene Martin, and husband Cecil; 7 grandchildren: Dave Davis, Don Davis (Tyrena), and Dode White (Jon), of Georgia; and Elizabeth Mather (Josh), Bryan Davis (Angie), Rebecca Burtoft (Kris), and Stephen Davis (Jennifer), of Alabama; 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Pre-deceasing her are her parents Guy and Inez Mitchell; her husband, Noah Davis; her youngest son, Doug Davis; her sister, Betty Lanier; and her two brothers, Doyle Mitchell, and Diemmer Mitchell.

GuyNelle lived in Oglethorpe County, GA, Fitzgerald, GA, Winterville, GA, Clanton, AL, and Helena, AL. While in Winterville, where she and her family were active in Winterville Baptist Church, she served many in her church and community. While in Clanton, AL, she attended Clanton Presbyterian Church with her son's family, and was a blessing to many there. While at Maplewood Lane Assisted Living, she was a source of inspiration to fellow residents and staff, and for many years walked regularly around the facility.

She had trusted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, and eagerly looked forward to her reunion with her husband and son, and to be in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was amazingly kind and thoughtful of others, and even when confined to bed the last few weeks of her life, when talking to family and friends and sitters always expressed concern for the other person.

She will be missed, but all who know her have been encouraged by her influence in their life.

The immediate family is grateful to God for His help and faithfulness, and for letting them see in Mom her strength in sickness and weakness, and her trust and faith in God.
