Matthew Mathews Obituary

LEXINGTON-Matthew Howard Mathews, 44, husband of Heather Denton Mathews, died Sunday, February 22, 2015. Born in Athens, he was the son of the late Walter Howard and Linda Wood Mathews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother in law: Betsy Chandler. Matt was self employed heating and air repairman and member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was very involved in his sons Little League Baseball and Football at the Oglethorpe County Recreational Department and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors in addition to his wife include his sons; Chandler and Hunter Mathews; brother and sister in law: Michael Lane (Kelly) Mathews of Lexington; nieces and nephew: Mae Mathews, Anna Brook Miller and Marty Mathews; brother in law: Nick Drake; sister in law: Blake Huff; father in law: Todd Denton: Heather's grandparents; Billy and Beverly Chandler of Colbert and numerous aunts, uncles and extended family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 11AM at Bethany Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mathews Family Cemetery. Palllbearers will be Jay Turner, Greg Caldwell, Dwayne Massey, Daryl Lawrence, Bobby Black, Tennison Hull, Danny Escoe, Jay Paul and Richard Anglin. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 at Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Oglethorpe County Recreational Department, P.O. 261, Lexington, GA 30648.
