Nettie Newton Obituary

Nettie Springs Newton, 98, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Presbyterian Community, Clinton, S.C.
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, with Reverend Trey Hegar officiating.
Mrs. Newton was born in Charlotte on June 17, 1914. She was a daughter of the late George Albert Springs and Ada Montgomery Springs and the widow of O.L. "Roy" Newton, having been married over 56 years. She was a graduate of Charlotte schools and a member of Purity Presbyterian Church, Chester, for over 50 years, where her passion was working in the kitchen, and a member of Mulberry Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, for over 30 years. Mrs. Newton was retired from the State Office of Veterans Affairs, Chester, and was also employed with the law firm of Strickland and Hardin. She was an avid bridge player.
Mrs. Newton is survived by one son, Fred L. Newton (Nancy) of St. Simons Island, Ga.; one daughter, Elizabeth Campbell of Charlotte; three grandsons, Daniel Newton (Betsy), Scott Newton (Sonya) and Gary Newton (Renee); and a number of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Community, 801 Musgrove St., Clinton, SC 29325; or Purity Presbyterian Church, 135 Wylie St., Chester, SC 29706.
