JAMES HUBERT Obituary

Hubert, James (Jim) Edward, of Laguna Niguel, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 14, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rockford, Il on July 21, 1944, Jim was a proud member of the U S Air Force with service in Vietnam as a staff sergeant.

Jim loved all things John Wayne and was known for his spot-on imitations. Jim was a collector of old Western firearms and loaded his own ammunition. He also participated throughout the years in shooting clubs and entered and won many quick-draw competitions. His expertise landed him work as a gunsmith on the pistols used in the movie Tombstone.

Jim was a loving and devoted husband to Carolyn for 34 years. He was her Jimmybird and she was his Carolynbird. Hawaii was their favorite get-away and they took their final vacation there this past September. Jim was also the loving stepfather to 5 daughters, Cindy, Vicki, Carrie, Christy and Colleen. He leaves behind 15 grandchildren who loved him dearly, 3 sons-in-law, his sister, Carol, brother-in-law, Harry and 3 nephews, Scott, Scott, Kelly and one niece, Laurie.

Jim wanted to be remembered by the Mexican phrase coined by John Wayne: "Feo fuerte y formal," which means "he was ugly, strong, and had dignity." He did not want that quote modified but we all knew of his strength, dignity, honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness. Three kisses to you, pilgrim. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015.

MY DAD AND I ON HIS LAST BIRTHDAY

COLLEEN VERRUTO

October 29, 2015

DIGNITY HONESTY INTEGRITY LOYALTY INTELLIGANT FAITHFUL TRUSTWORTHY AND YOU CAN COUNT ON MY DAD TO BE ALL THOSE THINGS AND BRAVE... HE WAS A GREAT PERSON.... GROWING UP OF COURSE I DIDNT THINK ANY OF THE ABOVE THINGS, I THOUGHT HE WAS BORING AND STRICT HE DEMANDED HONESTY HE DEMANDED ME TO HAVE INTEGRITY TRIED TO MAKE SURE I KEPT UP WITH MY HOMEWORK ALL THE THINGS TEENAGERS HATE. I WAS EXPECTED TO TELL THE TRUTH AND [I DIDNT] BUT HE WAS SO HONEST AND WOULD NEVER THINK TWICE ABOUT SOMEONE LYING TO HIM BECAUSE HE WOULD NEVER LIE.. I WOULD GET SO MAD AT HIM WHEN I WOULD TELL HIM TO TELL (A CALLER) THAT I WASNT HOME OR I WAS IN THE SHOWER I WOULD LITERALLY HAVE TO WALK OUT OF THE HOUSE OR GET IN THE SHOWER BEFORE HE WOULD DO THAT.. UGH I WOULD ARGUE ABOUT IT, HE WOULD JUST SIMPLY REPLY "I DONT LIE". NOT UNTIL AFTER I HAD MY OWN CHILDREN DID I APPRECIATE HIS RULES AND CONSEQUENCES AND I BEGAN TO HAVE A RESPECT FOR MY FATHER THAT I HAVE NEVER HAD WITH ANYONE ELSE IN MY LIFE. I REMEMBER ONE DAY WHEN I COULDLNT BELIEVE MY SON LIED TO ME AND I LOOKED OVER AT MY DAD AND HE JUST SMILED THIS HUGE CHEEK TO CHEEK SMILE.. I WISH I COULD SEE THAT "HA HA THATS WHAT YOU GET!" SMILE ONCE MORE! I PROMISE TO APPRECIATE IT THIS TIME PAPA, I LOVE YOU AND THANK YOU FOR TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF MY MOM AND I [I WAS TO STUBBORN TO TELL YOU THIS] I WILL ALWAYS REGRET THAT

Jim was a huge asset in the water industry and a great friend. Always ready for a cup of coffee, and conversation. He will be missed by many.
