Stephen Lazarus Obituary

Dr. Stephen Earl Lazarus January 11, 1938 ~ January 5, 2019 Stephen Earl Lazarus was born in New Haven, Connecticut at the Yale teaching Hospital on January 11, 1938. His parents, Charles and Sylvia Lazarus moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and this is where he spent the majority of his childhood and graduated from Ottawa Hills High School with honors in June of 1955. He attended the University of Michigan with a Max Fleming Physics Scholarship and was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity. He served his country from 1961 until 1963 in the US Army and was stationed in France. He graduated from UNLV with a Bachelor of Science and was the first UNLV student to attend medical school. He attended Medical School at University of Oregon, Portland Health Science and graduated in 1971. Dr. Lazarus launched the first Emergency Department at Redlands Community Hospital in July of 1973, and was their ER Department Director until 1990's. Dr. Lazarus was one of the original partners of California Emergency Physicians (CEP) the largest organized partnership of ER physicians in the nation. He was a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine. In the last ten years of his practice of medicine he was a staff Physician at Placentia Linda Hospital Emergency Department. Fine woodworking was a lifelong avocation for Steve, and became a second career for him as he displayed his fine woodturnings in shows across California and Utah. He was an exhibitor at the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts from 2010 to 2018. After nearly forty years as an Emergency Room physician, Dr. Lazarus continued his medical practice as a co-director of the Placentia Linda Hospital Wound Care Clinic until retiring in 2017. Dr. Lazarus is survived by his wife, Mollie; children, Angela, Gabriel (and wife Heather), Asher (and wife Isa) Charlie; grandchildren, Willow, Elowen and Sage; his brother, Edward (and wife Wendy); and nieces, Lizabeth, Carolyn and Christina. A memorial service for Steve will be held at Pacific View Memorial Park, in Corona Del Mar at 10AM on Thursday, January 10th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Stephen Lazarus to Temple Beth El of South Orange County or UCI Comprehensive Cancer Center to fund Gastrointestinal Oncology Research by Dr. Farshid Dayyani.

It´s been five years since my husband Stephen passed away and he is still sorely missed as there will never be anyone like him for me and all who called him friend.
