Carroll A. Griggs

GRIGGS, CARROLL A., 82, of Mt. Dora, died peacefully in the arms of his loving family Sunday, March 18, 2012. Carroll was born in Lake Jem, FL, in 1929. He graduated from Mt. Dora High School in 1947. He served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1953. After years of working for
J. G. Ray Jr., he became the owner of Philips 66 Service Station in Mt. Dora. In 1965, Carroll began working for the City of Mt. Dora's Fire Department, and became "Fire Chief" from 1971 - 1989. He is predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Christine. He is survived by his five step-sons: Neil, George, Charlie, Chris and Fred Stoothoff; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl and wife Carolyn; three nieces: Pam Rudolph, Deborah Winningham and Linda Griggs; one Nephew, David Griggs; and a host of great nieces and great great nieces. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Mount Dora, 1000 E 1st Ave., Mt Dora, FL 32757.
