Diane G. Bevis

1959 - 2013

Bevis, Diane G.54, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 27, 2013. She was born to Robert and Alice Garvin on January 29, 1959 as a twin in Coco Solo, Panama on a US Naval base. She grew up in Cuba and then Orlando where she graduated from Lake Howell High School in 1977. She attended UCF before marrying her husband, Jim Bevis, and having two daughters, Whitney and Megan. She worked in various positions while raising her daughters until they both went off to college. It was then she went to work as a cook on the ship her husband captained in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, traveling to various locations, including Guam, Japan, and Korea. After 8 years on the ship and her husband's passing, she returned to Orlando to be with family. She became a grandmother to two girls who brought a renewed joy to her life. Diane will be deeply missed for her outgoing personality, her vibrant sense of humor, and her beloved friendship. She is survived by her daughters, Whitney Balsamo (Chad) of Pembroke Pines and Megan Core (Justin) of Oviedo; granddaughters Carson Balsamo and Emery Core. She is also survived by her parents, Robert and Alice Garvin; sisters, Pam Kneapler, Denise Garvin, and Sandy Xedus; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the University Carillon United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 10 am.
