David,
Today I tried to reach you at your office, and I learned of your passing from a person who answered the phone. All this time I pictured you living in the Keys with your new wife and having a wonderful time sailing. You were so larger than life; it seems impossible that you are gone--and especially that I knew nothing about it. Memories have flooded over me all day since that phone call. You were a dear, good friend to me always. I am so sorry you are gone. There is an empty place out there now . . . Sincerely, and with Love and fond memories, Lee

Chris, David's memorial and celebration was absolutely beautiful. You and the Laws truly poured your hearts and souls into it, and it showed. The pictures were beautiful to look at, and the sailboat is gorgeous. David would be proud to have such a grand party!
I loved how there was more laughter than tears at his memorial. I've never been to one that lasted so long...it was heart warming to watch so many get up to speak about him. An hour and a half in total! My goodness!
You were the one of the most kind and sweet people that had ever graced his life. He truly loved you and was happy that you were there by his side. He was so proud to have you as his wife.
To Barb and Bo Laws and to Fran Massey, thank you for helping Chris so much in her time of need. I know David is smiling down on all of you.

I never truly knew David...only through you. And already he is missed very much. It was a pleasure taking care of him and you as well. He fought along hard fight and just wore out too soon. I will also miss the bond you and I have shared. Best Wishes Chris to you and your family from myself and The LRMC also.

It was a great honor for us to have met Dave and spend time with him during his last days here in the Keys. He was warm, inviting and intellegent and we learned a great deal from Dave. We have been calling Kemp Channel "Dave Kemp Channel" since our first meeting Dave and will always remember him fondly. Our deepest sympathies Chris to you and your family.

David endeared himself to so many people, that each person probably felt David was their best friend. He was so much fun to be around, whether working at the office or hanging out and relaxing on his sailboat. I shall miss his constant jokes and puns. Completely selfless and generous to a fault, he lived by the Biblical principle: “Whatsoever you do to the least of your brethren, you do unto me.” He treated people well. We all reap the benefit of having been blessed to rub shoulders with David. He has earned his eternal reward in Heaven. My family and I will never forget our fond memories of him.

David was a good sailing captain and Lee and I enjoyed many days on board with David, Fran and Meade. Last month we viewed the film of the race and it brought back the good old days. David was also a good business partner in my charter fleet. Lee and I wish the family well and will miss David but will retain the memories of the good times we had messing about with boats.

Of the few times we were in your presence, your warm smile and gentle conversation was apparent. You brought a stability to Chris and her children that was ever-so needed and appreciated. We miss that we never saw those long-horned cattle and walked your pasture together...or watched a sunset in the Keys. You made life very special for those around you. Enjoy those Gators from the helm of your new yacht in the sky.

Our time together was short. He was a wonderful husband. David was a sweet, caring man who was loved by many. There will be an empty space in my heart and life without him.
