It has been 11 years since I was accepted by you into your Family Fred, and I am so glad that you were there with open arms when I asked your daughter Tiffany's hand in marriage. You saw in me what others could not, you gave me direction, in my personal and business life. I respect you so much for all you have done not only for me, but everyone, including your family. You are by far one of the GREATEST men I was able to meet. You are missed so much, I miss watching you sing to Tiffany, I miss hearing you laugh when the family would reflect on the past, I miss hearing your stories of what most would consider horrible trips, but you seemed to make amusing. I am proud to call you my father in law, and I am so happy you accepted me into the Marlin Family. We all miss you Fred, and you will not be forgotten. With all my love...I look forward to the reuniting.
I love you and miss you.

This is for you mom. You wanted me to put my eulogy speech in here for you. I love you so here goes…

This is definitely the hardest thing I have done. I am not one for giving speeches and today, of all days, is no exception but I will do my best. When I was without a mother and father my dad and mom became my saviors but more then that they chose to be my parents. My dad since that time and through all the years, he has never failed to be that guiding hand that shoulder to cry on, that light in the darkness…he was and always will be the center of my world. There is so much about my father one could write a book, several books. He was tough when needed but the tenderest man then you could ever imagine. He raised my brother and sister with the wealth of wonderful stories, laughs, kisses and the best bear hugs around…and that never ending smile that was so sweet. He taught me the value of family, determination and to love unconditionally. He gave me more than I could ever repay, not that he would ever ask. He made decision making look so simple. If you were down, he picked you up. If you were depressed he found a way to cheer you up. If you were confused, he helped show you the way. Most of all I will miss the way dad’s eye’s lit up when he would reminisce about old memories. My father and mother have certainly made it difficult for the rest of use to live up to what they have built together through the years. As much as this hurts, as much as I cry because I miss my dad, I do hold my head up high, smile and laugh for all the wonderful memories he has given me, all of us. He would want all of us to be happy and keep creating more memories. Daddy you are the best and can never be replaced. I love you and thank you always! Love your daughter Lisa Bing

I can't believe it's been a year since you brightened the heavens with your arrival. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Sometimes it makes me smile, sometimes it makes me cry, sometimes both at the same time, but ALWAYS it reminds me of how much you loved me and how much I will always love you back! You are, by far, the greatest man I have ever known and I was so lucky to have you as my Dad! I will always try to live up to the expectations that you set for me and to be the kind of person that you can be proud of. I love you and miss you so much.

Aloha Uncle Fred,I will miss you very much but you will always be with me.I will never forget the Christmas when I opened the present and inside was a football.I remember I cried like a baby I was so happy. It was the Army-Navy 1963 special ball that was signed by each player.I had a special case made for it and looked at it everyday and thought of you and still do.You will be in my thoughts and now you have a front row seat to all the games.Love and aloha, bobby

Fred relieved me at SRF Subic Bay, Our paths crossed from time to time after that and I was always amazed at his zest for life. It was a priviledge knowing Fred. He left us way to early. He was a really good guy and served our country and his family and friends well.

It was a shock to hear of Fred's passing. To Sue and her loving family, I add my condolences on your loss. If I had a "best friend" at the Academy, it was Fred. We were teammates and roommates as enlisted men at NAPS, and for a short time at Annapolis, where we spent a great deal of time together until I left the Academy in 1963. He was one of the most sensitive, smartest and toughest guys I knew.

Though I let us both down by not staying in touch, I never forgot him -- each of us coming from families without much money, struggling through the loneliness of plebe year, working hard to make the football team. I remember visiting his family in New Jersey, and how proud they were; and watching Fred take on tasks without any consideration that they couldn't be done. Need a fullback? He would do it. Need a guard, a linebacker, a place-kicker? He would do it, and do it well.

I think it was at Cdr. Roland Riggs' house in Annapolis, just outside the Main Gate, that Fred and Sue met. It must have been plebe year, and he told me when we walked back, that he was going to marry her some day. Good on you, Fred, for being a great husband, parent and grandfather.

It was from Cdr. Riggs that I heard an excerpt from a letter Fred wrote from Viet Nam, telling of how tough it was over there, but how much good we were doing by rebuilding war-torn communities, and creating new schools. Good on you, Fred, for being a builder and a teacher, and helping kids learn what you learned.

Lisa, and the whole Marlin family,

I didnt know Fred, but I do know that Lisa loved and admired her father very much.

All of you are the person you are today because of his input in your life. I know that all of you feel that void without his presence. Rest assured he has left his mark and all of you have your memories to carry on his legacy for yrs to come.

Let those memories help you heal and move on thru life. Dont let sadness prevail as he would not want that.

Smile and know he loved all of you very much and showed it daily as he interacted with u.

God bless all of you and will keep u in my prayers.

I didn't know Fred, but I know his children and if they are any indication of what kind of person he was, then he was indeed a wonderful man. The stories they told were filled with love and admiration and kindness. I am saddened for your loss.

Sue, Tiffany, Joe, and Lisa, and Jason, and all the extended family members of Fred: I just wanted to add my thoughts and respects. I didn't "run" with Fred at USNA (few could!) but I knew him and came to respect him even more as I learned more about the man. Tiffany, I think you said it best; the world being duller and heaven brighter.
My thoughts are with you. In the modern vernacular, you all hang in there. Fred wouldn't have it any other way.

My brother was an exceptional person; always laughing, hugging, telling stories, mentoring, and loving. He was an exceptional Husband, Father, and Grandfather. No one could Love his family more than he did his. He was a person you could look up to and admire. He treated everyone with the same love and respect no matter who they were or where they came from. He had a zest for life and lived his well.
He taught me to dance when I was 11, counseled me on marriage, opened his home to my family when we moved, tutored me through my college Math courses, and gave me lots of advice. I loved him dearly and he will be sorely missed.
I will cherish the memories forever.

I have read the other entries in the guest book and was especially emotionally touched by those written by children and grandchildren. My tribute will pale in comparison, but I will tell you that he was very much loved and respected by his mates at the Naval Academy and most especially by his football teammates. My recollection of Fred on the field is concerning his field goal kicking, his leadership or his relentless play. This was brought back to me very vividly in the video highlights that were, I believe, forwarded to each team member in cojunction with the publishing of the book about our team titled The President's Team. Even though the footage is old and not the best quality you can clearly see Fred blocking on offense, tackling on defense and kicking some very crucial field goals. I hope that his children and grandchildren are afforded the opportunity to watch it. Fred Marlin was a giant of a man who I loved, respected and admired and we will all miss him.

R.I.P. Mr. Marlin. If it wasn't for this man I wounldn't have learned alot. He was sacraficial enough to take time out of his busy schedule to tutor me as a teenager, and his words of wisdom helped mold me into the person i am today. I have held him dear to my heart for years and always will.

Mr. Marlin was a rock of a man yet gentle as a teddy bear. I loved him for his kindness and strength. He and his family have invited me in as if I were family since I had no other family in Florida. Without that I would have left years ago. His hugs were theraputic and his handshake was painful but honest. I will miss him but remember him fondly. ...Annette M. Koonce
