John Driscoll Obituary

John Francis Driscoll age 58, of Longwood, FL died on July 31, 2023, at Advent Health Hospice Care Inpatient Unit after a hard fought fight with cancer. John grew up in Barnegat, New Jersey and attended Southern Regional High School. He is a graduate of Rutgers University. After graduation, he tried on a few careers, but once he began teaching, at St Phillips Academy in Newark, NJ, he found his passion. He exemplified the expression, "If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life". There he taught math and coached basketball and a national championship chess team. He was a favorite of students, parents and administrators alike, because not only could he make a mathematician out of almost any student, but he managed to make it fun along the way. He moved to Florida in 2000, to take a position at Sweetwater Episcopal Academy, and continued teaching math and coaching Chess both there and at Trinity Preparatory School. In 2018, he began teaching at Park Maitland School. He loved being a part of that school, because it was more than just a center for education, it was a community. They rallied around him and his family through his battle with cancer, making it possible for him to continue teaching right up to the end. John is survived by his wife, Ann; stepsons Emery Mullen and Adam Mullen; and his sister, Kim Konopack. He was preceded in death by his mother Carole Driscoll; father, Bruce Driscoll and stepson Ian. There will be a private funeral for John. A memorial is being planned to allow all those whose lives he touched to celebrate this beloved husband, father, friend, teacher and mentor.
