Joseph "Joe" Augenblick Jr.

1919 - 2013

Augenblick, Jr., Joseph JoeLong-time Orlando resident Capt. Joseph (Joe) R. Augenblick, Jr., USAF, Ret. passed peacefully in Lakeland, FL on December 15, 2013. He was born in the Presidio, San Francisco, CA on December 16, 1919, to Joseph and Hazel Augenblick. He grew up in Vancouver, WA. and graduated from Vancouver High School in 1939. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1940 and retired from the US Air Force in February 1965. In his early years Joe was active and proved very successful in swimming, ice-skating and tennis. He attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Vancouver. He met his wife of 66 years, Madeline Bogard, while stationed at the Orlando Air Base, FL. Joe was an active member at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Orlando, FL. He was also active with the Elks Club and a Mason. Joseph and Madeline showed tremendous talent in dance, and were proprietors/certified dance teachers of Klassy Kats Round Dance in Orlando. Joe is preceded in death by his beloved wife Madeline, twin brother John Augenblick, sister Doris Augenblick , son Joseph R. Augenblick, III, grandson Adam Augenblick, and great grandson Collin Shipley. He is survived by his son John (Elsie) Augenblick, grandchildren Scott, Jason and Trey Augenblick and Erin (Brandon) Shannon, great grandchildren Evan Augenblick, Cade Shipley and Choe and Carter Shannon. A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1603 W. Winter Park Rd., Orlando, FL 32803 (407) 894-1641 on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Cornerstone Hospice 2590 Havendale Blvd., NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881.
