Paula McIntyre

McIntyre, Paula Paula Barnes McIntyre, 82, of Hiawassee, GA and Eustis, FL passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 in Blairsville, GA following a brief illness. Paula was born February 10, 1935, in Hobart, OK to Sid and Christine (Diehl) Barnes. She graduated from Hobart High School in 1953 as valedictorian of her senior class. In high school, Paula was active in the band, playing the snare drum in the marching band and the marimba in the concert band. She shared her talents through performances with clubs and organizations throughout the area. She was a member of the Hobart First Presbyterian Church. Paula attended Oklahoma A&M College, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Paula married Walter H. McIntyre, Jr., a U.S. Air Force pilot stationed at Altus Air Force Base, on September 15, 1956. The couple made their home in Eustis, Fla., where Walt was a partner and Southeastern Regional Director with A.G. Edwards and Sons. When Walt retired in 1985, the couple divided their time between their residences in Eustis, FL and Hiawassee, GA. Paula was active with the Hiawassee Garden Club and the Red Hatters. Paula enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, shopping and collecting antiques. She liked watching Oklahoma State football on television. Paula kept up on the happenings in Hobart and was an avid reader of The Hobart Democrat-Chief. Paula is survived by her three daughters, Tracy McIntyre Belton and husband Freddie of Mount Dora, FL; Shelly McIntyre of Eustis, FL; and Dr. Jill McIntyre Golsen of Alpharetta, GA; one sister, Norma Barnes Crane of Hobart, OK; two brothers, George S. Barnes and wife Judy of Hobart, OK, and James Barnes of Lawrence, KS; six grandchildren, Bryce Golsen & Benjamin Golsen of Alpharetta, GA; Chris Belton, Vasily Belton, Tatyana Lanter and Olga Belton of Tavares, FL and one great grandson, Aleksander Lanter of Tavares, FL Paula was preceded in death by her parents and husband Walter H. McIntyre, Jr. No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Humane Society of Lake County or the Lake County Animal Shelter.
