Dear Harris family. I was deaply shocked after learning of the passing of Vince. We worked together for about 3 yrs at Ch 2 prior to his departure to Ch 13. We shared many good times covering the news for Ch 2. They were great times that I will always cherish. We also enjoyed some good golf matches. Sorry I am so late with my condolences, but I have been out of country quite a bit. Bill Britton, Clermont

The first time I met Scott, I was a student at FTU (now UCF). He was the anchor at WESH at the time, and spoke to one of our classes.
I remember thinking how talented he was, and how someday, I'd like to be that good.
The last time I saw him was at the final Space Shuttle launch. He told me (with a smile!) how he was battling cancer... and not to worry... he wasn't giving up.
I remember thinking how upbeat he was, and how someday, I'd like to be that brave.
Scott was a real inspiration... one of those rare people, who make a significant mark in life, and leave a lasting legacy, for the rest of us.
I will remember him as a true professional, a caring friend, and a generous giver, who was courageous to the end.

Deepest sympathy to his family. May the happy memories eventually fill the deep pool of pain that you now feel. He was to me, the Walter Cronkite of local news. No greater compliment could they pay than younger journalist and newsmen/ women strive to follow in his footsteps.

Our condolences to the family and friends of Vince. I first met Vince in 1968 as my roommate when we were both stationed at Warner Robbins AFB in Georgia and where we worked together in the Guidance and Flight Control Unit of the 19th AMMS. I remember the room being full of books (he being an avid reader) and him being really smart, fun to be around, an all-around good guy. I am wondering whatever happened to the classic Thunderbird he was fixing up back then--how he loved that car! We hung out together even after we both met our future wives and moved out of the barracks. Vince and Vicki even came up to Boston for a visit in 1970 shortly after we had both been discharged. We had some good times. We lost touch over the years as we both got busy with our own lives and our families, but when I knew him, he always spoke with pride in and how much he loved the Orlando area, so it doesn't surprise me at all that he died so well-beloved by everyone there. These last few days have brought back some good memories remembering him. Our best to Vicki and family,

A man I knew only as the "serious" anchor and investigative journalist for the past 10 years on Channel 13. He lent an air of integrity to the local channel known best for its weather forecasts every 10 minutes. I am so sad I never knew he was sick. He, like others gone too soon, made a difference in this stranger's life. Channel 13 was lucky to have such a classy man, and we viewers didn't know how lucky we were to see a true professional journalist. He has huge shoes to fill. God Speed to you, sir.

Scott,
I know you already know this, but I love you. Thank you so much for reading my blog...for allowing me to spend a lot of time with you these past couple of months, for mentoring me at work, for laughing with me, for joking with me at the printer and for just being a friend. This has been very hard for me.I am mad at cancer. I don't understand how its possible that I can no longer talk to you. This is hard, but I know you are shaking your head and rolling your eyes telling me to stop worrying. I know you wouldn't want this from me. I know that you want me to smile...but i can't i'm sad. I hope you made it to heaven by now big guy...I told the boys you passed away. Everyone is so sad without you. Miss you....R.I.P

I helped launch CFN 13 back in 1997 with Scott. He was, in every sense of the words, "a true professional". Me being a 27 year old kid, who had a TV/film background but knew very little about news, would listen and learn from this Icon of the business. Let's just say, that the producers of the news back then were "very green" and it was up to Scott to show them how to report from a journalistic point of view, not Shock an Awe. Directing Scott and Jeff Day on the morning news was in one word "hilarious" and actually made me enjoy working in news. I did not know Scott was as sick as he had become and now truly regret not reaching out to see and talk to him one more time. Although it has been 12 years since we worked together, Scott, I will always consider you a mentor and a friend. You made me laugh and now, unfortunately, you made me cry......(Fade to Black)
