Thomas Treadway Obituary

TREADWAY, THOMAS HAMPTON, of Gotha, Florida, passed away on May 5, 2002, after a valiant struggle to overcome several infirmities. He was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas a son of the late Thomas and Effie (Hampton) Treadway. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Baugh; daughter and son-in-law; Nancy and James Berry of Gotha; two grand daughters, Kristen Ruby Woodard of Nacogdoches, Texas and Anya Ruby Zamora of San Jose, Costa Rica; and one brother, Frank Leon Treadway of San Francisco, California. Mr. Treadway and his wife were long time residents of Roswell, Georgia before moving to Florida 18 months ago. They were very active members of Roswell United Methodist Church, where Mr. Treadway served on the tape ministry, ushered and helped those in the community who were less fortunate or in need. He had shown an entrepreneurial spirit by founding 'Crane-Treadway' a wholesale dry goods business in Jackson, Tennessee. His patriotism led him to join the army where he earned the rank of Captain. He received a purple heart for injuries sustained while defending his country. Upon returning from the war he took his new bride and began what would become a long and successful career in sales. He retired as the Regional Manager from Newell Company. After retiring 16 years ago he enjoyed his time traveling domestically and abroad. During his free time he enjoyed bridge and liked to be involved in the community. Since moving to Florida he joined St. Lukes United Methodist Church and has researched areas where he could serve his congregation. A Memorial Service will be on Thursday, May 9, 2002 at 11:30AM in the Chapel of Downtown Baptist Church, 120 East Pine Street, Orlando, FL 32801 (407-425-0200). In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Treadway may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements entrusted to Woodlawn Funeral Home, Orlando, FL (407) 293-1361.

I knew Tom as the only Grandfather in my life. He was a very dominant figure with a caring side that he shared with close friends and family. Poppi was always interested in my work and gave me numerous amounts of very good advice. I love him for the interest he took in my life, for the daughter that he raised and for the love he shared with several generations of my family. He will be missed greatly.-With love, Anya Ruby de Zamora

We have great memories of Tom. He and Libby always helped with visitation at RUMC. He always had a joke to tell and he wanted to know what was going on - which he found out by asking questions.

I will always remenber him calling me to pick up a bouffet from a local antique store. We loaded it, got it to his house, and found it had a complete set of dishes in the drawers - but we didn't break a one.

Our best wishes to Libby.

Tom was always a real trooper and kept up with all of us during our many adventures to various theme parks and special occasions. His sense of humor and quick wit will be missed.

Libby, Nancy, Kristen, and Anya I'm thinking of you during this time of great loss.

Much Love, Julie

We remember Tom for his love of Bridge, and also his love of shopping for fresh vegetables.

He went with us once to the State Farmers Market and seemed to have just a lot of fun.
