Gerald Jacklin Obituary

Gerald W. "J.J." Jacklin, passed away on January 26, 2025. He was born in Hartford, WI to the late Elroy and Lucille (Proeber) Jacklin on March 4, 1949. J.J. married Cheryl Urban on December 27, 1981.

Growing up, Jerry attended school in Hartford, WI. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a degree in business and later he obtained an associate degree in IT, setting a strong foundation for his career. He retired from UWO after 27 years of service at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO).

His commitment to Oshkosh was further exemplified through his work on the Oshkosh Landmarks Committee. He worked to preserve the historical sites that define the fabric of the city, showcasing his unwavering love for the community. Jerry shared his insights and passion through several thoughtful articles published in the Oshkosh Herald, inspiring others to recognize the beauty and significance of the local buildings and heritage.

Jerry was a talented musician, he could play the accordion, piano and drums being his favorite. He was a vibrant presence during his time performing with various bands as a drummer in his younger years. The last band being, "Rob and The Rest Reunion Tour". His passion for music was evident in the joy he brought to audiences and the camaraderie shared with his fellow bandmates and friends.

Beyond his professional life Jerry was a devoted horse handler, sharing a special bond with his boys, Chiefers and Shadow Boy. His love for horses reflected his gentle spirit and kindness, qualities that will be greatly missed by all that new him.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Cheryl; and their beloved horses, Chief and Shadow Boy; brother, Rick (Jan) Jacklin; sister, Elaine (Larry) Gumbert; sisters-in-law, Lee Ann Smith, Theodora (Tom) Butt, Michaelene (John) Kraus; niece, Mae Lee Watson, great-niece Chelsea Kundal; nephew, James (fiancé Kim) Segal; Cheryl's cousin, Gail Pohnan and Cousin Lou Pohnan. He is further survived by dearest friends, David, Sheri, Kaeli, Lauren Grunska.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles, along with his father-and-mother-in-law, Ted F. and Eleanor Urban; sister-in-law, Martina (Jack) Watson, Joel Hartman; Cheryl's uncles, Chester Urban, Julius (Claire) Urban and Cheryl's Aunty Jean (Pat) Pohnan.

A private memorial service remembering Jerry's life has been held. Any memorials can be sent to Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home at 402 Waugoo Ave. Oshkosh, WI 54901.

J.J. was the most kind, gentle and caring man – He was the one with the white hat.
