Daniel Fleming, who lived his life in steadfast faith and service to the Catholic Church, entered eternal rest on October 4, 2025, at Covenant Select Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan, following a courageous battle with illness. Dan was born on October 28, 1959, to Donald Fleming and Theresa Zondlak. He retired earlier this year from the Saginaw Correctional Facility, where he served as a Corrections Officer for many years.
A devoted Catholic and long-time member of St. Brigid Catholic Church, Dan's faith was central to his life, guiding him through both triumphs and challenges. Although he was a reserved and private individual, he always remained close to his family, offering a steady presence and unconditional support. His love for his family and his faith were the cornerstones of his life.
Dan actively lived his faith through service. He was a dedicated Eucharistic Minister and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He especially enjoyed participating in the parish's Friday Fish Fry during Lent and volunteering at the church booth during Loons baseball games. His deep commitment to his church community was evident in every act of service.
Outside of church, Dan had a passion for estate sales and appreciated the thrill of discovering unique finds, He loved a good, high quality meal with great company, always topped off with a sweet dessert. A curious and adventurous spirit, Dan traveled widely, visiting the Vatican, Australia, Italy, Guatemala, and Israel, each journey deepening his faith and love of culture. He also cherished time spent with family, particularly sharing stories and memories about his large extended family and its rich history. Dan will be remembered for his unwavering faith, quiet strength, generous spirit, and deep devotion to those he loved. He was a true testament of trusting in the lord throughout his life. His legacy of service, kindness, and integrity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his sister Denise (Brian) Burch; his beloved aunt, JoAnn Reeves, who held a truly special place in his heart and was like a second mother to him. Also surviving Dan are his dear cousins Catherine (Greg) Poulos, Cari Mason, Becky Minnis, and Ed Lincoln, who provided steadfast love and support throughout his life, especially during his illness. His nieces and nephews, Kali (Travis) McKenna, Brett (Alexandra) Burch, and Rebecca (David) Sexton, and his great nephews and niece, Banks and Tate, and Collins. Throughout his life, Dan was deeply loved and cared for by many additional family members and close friends, whose presence and support brought him comfort, strength, and joy. He was preceded in death by his mother Theresa Zondlak his father Don Fleming and brother Jeffery Fleming.
A funeral mass will take place at 11:00am on October 14, 2025 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Blaxton officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00pm-7:00pm with vigil service at 6:00pm on October 13, 2025 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home and from 10:00am until time of service at the church. Graveside words of committal will be at Old Calvary Cemetery on Tuesday at 2:00pm.
