Daniel Hoverman Obituary
Daniel Hoverman, Sr.
Daniel Lee Hoverman, Sr., 85, of Midland passed away peacefully early the morning of November 18, 2024, following an over decade-long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Dan was born October 31, 1939, to Edward and Bernice (Schweitzer) Hoverman, the second of seven children.
Dan attended Bay City Handy. Growing up he worked on the family farm. He was a mechanically talented man. In his early years, he worked for Skelton's Garage. Following that, he spent 38 years as a Millwright for General Motors Malleable Iron plant. One thing he truly enjoyed beyond fixing things at work was the evenings spent with "the guys" at work cooking up some good steaks or other yummy food items to pass the time on the midnight shift. As a family we always got a chuckle out of the gems of knowledge shared by the guys at work. They were obviously the most intelligent men known to Dad.
On April 16, 1960, Dan married the love of his life Dolores (Dee) Kerns. They celebrated 64 years of marriage which is a true testament to their love and commitment to each other and their family. Dan and Dee were founding members of Bethel Ministries where he truly enjoyed worshipping the Lord. With his illness and moving into the nursing home, he dearly missed the days he could attend services and be with his family and friends there.
Dan was a man of few words, but when he did speak it was either a very wise and thought-out comment or a true zinger of a joke to share with those he loved. In between his little naps, he enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, word searches, Sudoku, and playing Chicken Foot. He especially enjoyed time surrounded by family and friends.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his adoring and caring wife, Dolores; children, Daniel Hoverman Jr., Amy (Brian) Michael, Lori (Curt) Baker, and Jeff Hoverman; grandchildren Brian (Mary) Michael, Cam (Natalie) Altizer, Gabriel Hoverman, Joshua Baker (friend Kelly), Amanda (Jeremy) Eastman and Zach Santos; and great-grandchildren Kaiden and Abby Michael. He is also survived by siblings Lillian Wiggins, Shirley Miner, Saundra (Charles) Batcke, Linda (DeRoy) Mahagan, Wil Hoverman; in-laws Anna (Bob) Beltz, Dorothy Gallihugh, Tom (June) Kerns, Mike (Heidi) Kerns, Jerry Kerns, MarJorie Kerns (friend Joe), and Jon Kerns. He was preceded in death by his grandson Matthew Baker, brother Rodney Hoverman, and his parents.
Funeral services for Dan will take place at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Bethel Ministries, 1492 W. Midland Road, Auburn, MI with Pastor Brian Michael Jr., Rev. Michael Underhill, and Pastor Brian Michael officiating. Final interment will be at Midland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., on Wednesday, November 20 from 5 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Memorial donations can be made to Bethel Ministries.
Rest easy, we love you. Until we meet again, Joe, Poppy, Gramps, Mugs, Grumpy, Grandpa Dan, Dad, Honey…
