Doris Michaud Obituary

Doris Michaud
Doris Mae Michaud of Midland, MI passed away on January 22, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was at peace. She was born in Detroit on February 17, 1930, to Jim and Winnie Martin and grew up in Alpena. Doris married her sweetheart Terry Michaud on August 19, 1950, in Alpena.
Doris is survived by her husband Terry, her daughters Mary (Dennis) Baese, Pat (Mike) Messinger, Kim Michaud, and her sons Jim (Betsy) Michaud and Terry Lee Michaud, as well as her sister Sally (Karl) Mustafaga.
Her six grandchildren, Geni (Erik) Harclerode, Josh Messinger, Melissa Baese (Peter) Berk, Molly (Zara) Maldonado, Abby (Charlie) Arnold, and Maddy Wheelock, and five great grandchildren, Annabelle Harclerode, Gabriella and Emilia Maldonado, Maeve Arnold, and Jonah Berk, were a special joy to her. She called them "the jewels in her crown."
Doris lived a rich and full life. In addition to raising her five children in Midland, she worked outside the home in several companies, and with her husband they had their own business, Carrousel by Michaud. They moved to Chesaning in 1984 where they opened a shop on the boulevard featuring their bears as well as other collectibles.
Their business specialized in antique and collectible teddy bears. The artist bears were designed and made by Doris. The teddy bears gave them the opportunity to travel around the country and the world. Their bears brought joy to children and collectors alike. Terry and Doris were frequent speakers at teddy bear conventions. They also wrote several books on teddy bears and were recognized as experts in their field.
Doris was a lover of all of God's creatures great and small and passed that love along to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader especially of mysteries.
Terry and the family are grateful for the excellent care that Doris received from the staff at Stratford Pines and the Hospice Program at MyMichigan Health.
A memorial service in honor of Doris will be held at 11 a.m. on April 15, 2023, at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 west Wheeler Street. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris's honor may be made to the Humane Society of Midland County, the MyMichigan Health Foundation (hospice), or any charity of your choice. Hard to believe so many of the old bear people are gone. She is missed by many of us . Loved the bear making classes that we were lucky enough to attend.

Very sad to lose such a talented bear artist and a lovely lady. I went to a few of her bear workshops and they were so much fun. Never having made a bear it was perfect for the beginner . We had a great lunch and of course a tour of her bear shop. She will be missed.
