James E. Diment
James Edward Diment, 93 of Midland passed away Monday July 26, 2021. He was born in Coleman in the home of the late Vernell and Thelma Sprenger Diment. Jim graduated from Coleman High School and proudly served in the military service in the United States Navy. He served at Great Lakes, Kwajalein, and Majuro. When Jim returned from the U.S. Navy, he enrolled and attended the Bay City Northeastern School of Commerce pursuing a business degree. He worked at the Dow Chemical Company retiring after 38 years of service. He had a welding shop at his residence and worked as a sub-contractor for several home builders building wrought iron railings for homes and business structures. His shop was equipped with every type of equipment needed. He was an excellent welder and fabricator. Jim married Thelma A. Sahaydak on October 14, 1951, at the First Baptist Church in Bay City with 69 years together. He enjoyed time spent on the Sunday School Staff and later as a Youth Counselor at the Coleman Wesleyan Church. These events were enjoyed following church services on Sunday evenings. The youth enjoyed hayrides, taffy pulls, pizza nights, a trip to Cedar Point in Cleveland, Ohio, Halloween parties and many other activities in the barn on 4944 West Burns Road. Jim is survived by his wife Thelma Sahaydak Diment, daughter and son-in-law Linda (Tom) Hohner-Foster of Midland, 2 granddaughters: Annaliese Hohner and Arianna Hohner, brother Robert (Beverly) Diment, sister-inlaw Joan Methner Diment, 3 brothers-in-law: Donald Clarke, Daniel (Tamara) Sahaydak and Paul (Sotie) Sahaydak, many nieces, nephews, as well as many other loving family members, friends and neighbors. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his beloved son, Dennis James Diment, son-in-law Robert O. Hohner, brother Richard O. Diment and sister-in-law Lena Sahaydak Clarke. His memory and spirit will be kept alive in the hearts of his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday July 30, 2021 at the O'Laughlin Funeral Home, Inc., Coleman, with Dr. Dan Dickerson officiating. Burial will take place in the Warren Township Cemetery, Coleman. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 pm and on Friday starting at 10 am until the time of services. A reception will follow at the Calvary Baptist Church, 6100 Perrine Road, Midland MI. following the Interment Services at the Warren Township Cemetery in Coleman. The family would like to thank the staff at Stratford Pines and the Mid-Michigan Hospice for the love and kindness they showered upon Jim. Memorials are suggested to MidMichigan Home Care.
